A friend had his hdd crap out. He purchased a new ssd. He's trying to do a clean install of windows 10 from an iso on a thumb drive. When he tries he gets through some screens, but eventually gets to a compatibility report about 'The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using windows installation media If a copy of windows is already installed...(etc., etc.)

Any ideas of what is going on? He doesn't have windows installed as the drive that he had it on crapped out, and he gets this error when he tries to use the thumb drive to install the windows 10 iso onto the new ssd.

It sounds like he can get far enough to see the screen asking him what drive to install to, but he doesn't see his drive there, but he does seem to see the drive in his bios ?

Thanks!

did he take the old hdd out?

its best to only have the ssd attached when he installs windows. It shouldn't be getting any option to upgrade unless there is a drive with windows already in PC.

Then try the installer.

@axlrose ...wonders to self if you fronted or are huge fan of GnR....lol.

Appetite for Destruction was among the best cover to cover albums in the history of rock and roll. Shame they couldn't keep that going with the follow ups.
