Hi

Have bought a new graphics card for my son to upgrade his pc. After installing it there is no output signal at all.

The motherboard is an Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard https://www.asus.com/se/supportonly/sabertooth p67/helpdesk_manual/

The GPU is an RTX 3060 https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-RTX-3060-GAMING-X-12G

Have put the the card in PCI-express port 2 which is specified as "PCIe 2.0 x16_1 slot (single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode)"

Is there any obvious reason that this shouldn´t work? As far as I know PCI-e is backwards and forwards compatible. PSU is 650W

Fell lost although I have been building pc-s since 1991....

If you aren't on the latest BIOS, that might be worth a shot.

If there are any PCIe speed settings, change it from auto to PCIe 2.0. It may be trying to auto negotiate and it isn't defaulting to trying 2.0 connection speeds.

Looks like a UEFI BIOS to me, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

An MSI PSU, ok quality.

We have a resolution, and HDMI Signal, but I have no idea what worked. Upgraded the bios to newest version. (released 2012/11/22...) Had missed the last updates. Also changed the only setting for pci-e In the bios...

Will let the son savour the success for a while and then try to change the pci-e setting back. Anyone who can decipher this from the manual:

PCI Express X16_2 Slot Configuration [U3 Mode]

[U3 Mode] USB3_34 is enabled, and PCIe 2.0 x1_2 slot is diabled.
[X1 Mode] PCIe 2.0 x1_2 slot runs at x1 mode, and USB3_34 is disabled.

Right now we are in X1 mode.

appears that U3 Mode offers USB 3.0 but secondary PCIe 2.0 slot is disabled.
X1 Mode offers secondary PCIe 2.0 slot but USB 3.0 is disabled.

the "34" related to USB3 may be a certain port or area of the board?

x1 slot would say it isn't the GPU one. Probably just the BIOS update that did it.

USB3_34 is the front panel USB 3.0 connector. Basically saying that that 1x slot and the USB 3 controller share bandwidth. You probably want U3 mode on if you have the front panel USB 3.0 header connected.
