I'm getting a prebuilt desktop pc, I don't know the brand but I'm assuming it's popular ones like hp, dell, said and ecs, from someone and I was wondering if I could switch the motherboard that's prebuilt inside it with a mis motherboard or something?

Solution
The ability to swap conventional commercial ATX motherboards into a Dell or HP and a few other prebuilts is often compromised by proprietary custom internal headers to match uniquely manufactured cases built just for a narrow range utilizing them, along with normally too-smallish PSUs...

On the positive side, a new Corsair 100r case is only $55 or so...or Corsair 600 watt PSU is about the same cost...

Question from josh1002 : "Is it Compatible?"

Will a gaming motherboard fit in a dell, asus,hp, or acer desktop tower if I replace it. I'm aware that I might need to get new ram and cpu. I'm just concerned that my pre installed motherboard won't support pci-express x16 for a gpu.

Yes, all the MB will come with the shield plate, and once again, if you buy the new modern gaming MB, you will have to get the new cpu, new RAM, and the new PSU too, the old AMD cpu is not compatible with the new MB you will buy. Also double check the MB format, the old HP case may not fit with the new MB.
