Current CPU: AMD A4 5300
Upgrade CPU: A10 6700
Comparison: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-A4-5300-vs-AMD-A10-6700

I have a couple of questions:

From my understanding, a compatible CPU upgrade is another CPU with the same CPU Socket Type (FM2 in this case) and Thermal Design Power (65W in this case), right?

Secondly, is this the best CPU upgrade? I wasn't able to find another higher priced CPU whether it be from AMD or Intel with FM2 and 65W.

Lastly, as one can tell, I'm basing which CPU is the best based off their price. I don't really understand how GHz works because obviously one cannot compare CPUs from just their GHz, right? An Intel i5 CPU with 2.5GHz will smoke an older (~5 year old) CPU with 3.5GHz any day. Do people look at GHz and the number of core to determine which CPU is better?

Last question, I promise this time. How much of a performance booster is AMD A4 5300 to A10 6700 in terms of %? An approximation would do! I don't really game much. I just use Photoshop, Visio Studio and some video editing.

Thanks guys! Happy holidays! :bounce:

FM2 is a amd format. Intel is not an option with that motherboard.
The AMD A4 5300 is dual core with a passmark rating of 2013.
The A10 6700 is a quad core with a rating of 4678.
The a10 cores are perhaps 10% faster but you get 4 of them.
If your apps are multithreaded, it is a nice boost.
If you are single threaded, not so much.

The reason intel cores are faster is because their architecture is smarter. They do more work per clock.

Is this the best CPU upgrade I can get without upgrading my motherboard or any other parts? Is there a better AMD CPU?
