Question Compatible DDR4 upgrading memory

I've currently got a PC with 16GB of Memory (Crucial Ballistix BL2K8G32C16U4B 3200 MHz, DDR4, DRAM, 16GB (8GB x2), CL16,)

I want to upgrade this - 32GB will be plenty. So, ideally adding another 16GB

My Motherboard has 4 slots (Gigabyte B450M DS3H (Socket AM4/B450/DDR4/S-ATA 600/Micro ATX), so I'd like to add more without junking the memory I have.

I'm looking at Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Desktop Memory CT16G4DFRA32A. this would still leave me 1 empty slot if I want to upgrade further.

Does this make sense? Am I missing anything?

Thanks

While that could work in theory. You can mix and match different RAM and hope it works. But, it doesn't make the most sense.

Issues:

1.) You are mixing and matching modules with different timings and speed and possible voltage. All your RAM must run with the same settings, typically with the slowest common denominator.

2.) Most mainstream motherboards can utilize dual-channel memory. You must run modules in two's to utilize dual-channel. Adding a single module will run in single-channel. While the first two may (or may not) run in dual and the third in single, it's not ideal to mix them unless dual-channel offers you no benefit.

As you can see, mixing RAM isn't the best idea. Especially in a system where RAM speed is more important.

What exactly are you using this system for?

What makes the most sense is replacing your 16GB kit with a 32GB kit; or at the very least adding the same exact kit to double it.

This looks like what you have.
Make sure of the return policy as it will be a coin flip if all the sticks play nice together.
Don't add a single stick that will muck up the dual channel feature.
