I would like to add a graphics card to my Gateway DX 4870 that comes and i3 3240, 6gb ram, 300watt PSU, and an Acer ipimb-ar motherboard.

I had the Radeon HD 7770 or a GTX 650 in mind but I'm not sure if either are compatible. Please give me recommendations for these specs thanks you!

Solution
Assuming the Gateway PC you have is a tower and not desktop or small form factor (I don't think that model came in those), any GTX 1050 Ti that requires no 6-pin connector should be fine.
This is last one I bought that requires no 6-pin. Great little card. Here are many others. Just check that they require no 6-pin.

Are you sure the gtx1050 can run on this PC? My hardware is really old and my motherboard doesn't have UEFI compability

I have installed GTX 1050 Ti's in much older legacy BIOS machines than that. The card will switch to legacy BIOS compatibility mode when needed. The last PC I stuck a GTX 1050 Ti in was an ancient Lenovo M58p mini tower with a 775 socket and Core 2 Quad CPU.
I've got one in my Optiplex 790 SFF from the 1155 socket era running next to me right now.
