Hi

Has anyone experience on compatible inks for the 1290, such as best
makes, best quality etc.

Are Jet tec any good or possibly Orink?

Thanks

Wow! What a powerful cry for help that is.
That's exactly what you need to do. I suggest you stand in front of
mirror and ask yourself if you know how to pray and what to pray for.
Maybe, just maybe, prayer will help you heal your inter person that is
so terribly wounded and disturbed.
Any mirror will do.

Jack - pay no attention to Measekite. He has never used aftermarket inks
but warns everyone of the perils of dealing with any of the vendors or using
their products. You can tell by the way he responded that he has no
intention to help. Hopefully someone who has experience with your
particular printer and aftermarket inks will respond on this NG. Otherwise
google for Epson users and also go onto the forum on inks and cartridges at
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/ . This is almost entirely Canon
oriented, but if you sign in and ask the question someone there may have
experience with Epson compatable inks. I had read, once, that Jet tec Epson
inks were good, but I can not recommend any as I only have experience with
Canon compatable ink.

Frank - he should definitely step away from the fun house mirror he has been
looking at up til now! I guess he has decided to take away the titles he
has bestowed on me for himself. With his call to prayer and big red amens I
think we have found the new Reverend. Praise the Lord, and Glory
Hallaluyah, brother Measekite. You are now the Holier than thou of the NG.
Worshipping at the church of Our Lady of OEM ink. Too bad you haven't been
able to gather much of a flock of fellow worshippers around you for your
gospel of the hawkers and whores.

I think the answer depends on where you live. I'm in the UK and I have two
Epson 890s, both bought used from eBay and both producing excellent results.
The previous owners used aftermarket inks. I cleaned the heads using
Arthur's excellent instructions, then carried out some experiments with
various inks using the DigitalDog test page and Epson paper as my reference.

The best results were with Epson ink (£15 for colour, £18 for b&w). I was
particularly interested in getting a good grey scale with colour ink, but
the flesh tones were excellent too. A very close second (and the ink I use
every day) was PrintRite (£2.50 for colour). By far the worst was from PC
World (£6 for colour).

Jack,
I can only say that I have been using JetTec inks for some years now, in
SP740, 790, 810, and now R800. I've never had any problems with them that
you won't get with Epson's own inks. There are cheaper cartridges available,
but the only way to be absolutely sure is to try them. And in a vain attempt
to put off the local troll, at least with JetTec you know what you are
getting, as JetTec formulate and manufacture their own inks.
Steve.

I have tried:

1. Mediastreet
2. InkRepublic
3. InkSupply
4. Lyson

Their inks are all good, I dont know about Jet tec.

now, I am using http://www.inkrepublic.com 1280/1290 CIS.

if you want to get the best one, Epson is the only choice.

Epson is good at pigment ink, if you are talking about dye ink, I dont
see any difference among epson's and mediastreet's, inkrepublic's ...

Wrong again bird brain. He also knows the inks that work.
Which is 100% more than you know and the most important thing to know.

Whatever my IQ is, it's apparent to all it's much higher than yours.
Before you open your mouth to simply change your feet, you should try
reading and COMPREHENDING what you've just read and just maybe, just
maybe, your answers won't make you look like such a moronic fool.
Try it, it just might work.

Canon controlls the entire process from the formulation to monitoring
the quality in what ever plant does the actual packaging. And then they
sell and stand behind the product via a multitude of both brick and
motar and online venues.

Why do you people have so much trouble understanding this?

Ok...now we're getting somewhere. Canon, as you say controls the entire
process from the formulation to monitoring the quality in what ever
plant does the actual packaging.

Right and this is called "contract manufacturing". Canon does not own
the actual plant, but simply contracts with the plant(s) to make ink to
"their specifications".
If you've ever been inside a "contract manufacturing" plant you might
happen to notice different labels going onto the same product for
different distributors. You're not supposed to know this as these
"contract manufacturers" are almost always under NDA. NDA stands for
"non disclosure agreement". They (the contract manufacturer) agree not
to disclose the contents to other, competitive marketers, distributes or
labelers.
These plants are also where 3rd party inks come from. They don't come
from some ones bathtub or garage. This is a huge business.
These ink manufacturers want to achieve the lowest possible price of
manufacturing which equates into doing maximum volume.
Simply put, if you have the money they have the goods.
Trust me, they are the real "whores" of the business as they will, for a
large enough contract (money), duplicate (aka steal) any ink formula you
desire.

TOTAL BULLSHIT!

Canon knows nothing about inks and formulations. Inks are strictly
engineered by whichever ink manufacturer/formulator Canon has chosen to
work with. Only ink formulators know ink. Canon knows cameras and
electronics, zilch about printing inks. And they change the manufactures
from time to time. Some of the ink formulators have been manufacturing
printer inks before the damnation of inkjets!

> And then they sell and stand behind the product via a multitude of

MORE BULLSHIT!!!

What does "stand behind the product" actually mean? You'll get your
money back or a new set of cartridges if the ones sold are faulty. And
ALL of the sellers I've dealt with guarantee this. There is no one
actually standing behind my printer. I looked.

> Why do you people have so much trouble understanding this?

Maybe ...

1. Because his name is Measekite, of limited understanding.

2. BECAUSE HE'S TOO BUSY BULLSHITTING THE NEWSGROUP!!!

3. He bought 25 one-size-fits-all "I'm Tickled Pink With OEM Ink"
T-Shirts and now feels he has to live out the fantasy.

Did you ever hear about employing engineers? Did you ever hear about
outsourcing enginering companies. Canon controls and markets the
situation as well as engineers the printer and paper.
