Hello everyone, I will be upgrading my computer to either an FX 6300 or 4300 and I want to know a budget motherboard which is compatible withe the processors. I am thinking of the Gigabyte-GA-78LMT-USB3 mobo, or, the MSI 760GM-P21. Which one would be better? And please suggest alternatives as well if you want.
And I'm 14, so, its not a costly upgrade. Just a cheap mobo to build a rig that can run GTA 5 on medium-high or low-medium setiings.

Thanks.

Solution
ok, thats really old 😉

Just to be sure, that you are aware, what you will need for upgrading:

-new motherboard and CPU,
-new DDR3 RAM, you just have DDR2
-new power supply, if yours just have a 4pin ATX12V power connector and not an 8Pin,
-new HDD or SSD, [strike]because the new motherboard won´t have IDE to connect with[/strike]

to run GTA V at low settings the R7 240 should suffice
a new installation of windows 7 will be necessary, normally the 32bit licence key works for the 64bit version too, install 64bit Windows 7

I have a HIS Radeon R7 240 1GB GDDR5 GPU, and I will upgrade to 4GB RAM.
And will I be able to play GTA V even at low settings? Please your answer is appreciated. :)

They are both very comparable. I did notice the Gigabyte has USB 3.0 ports where the MSI does not. Other than that they are very similar.

In theory, yes you should be able to. I would consider moving to 8GB of RAM which that Gigabyte mobo will support. Also would consider upgrading the GPU at some point but I understand cost is an issue for you.

Start with CPU and mobo. And move to 8GB and newer GPU if need be but as I said before in theory you should be able to play at low with your build and newer CPU.

If you could, use Speccy: https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download/standard to get some better info on your system for us. Then go to File > save as text and open the text doc and copy the top part of it for us.

And just paste the top section in your reply or edit your first post like so:

Best of a machine mate... but I have to ask is that your stock RAM speed or do you have underclocked for some reason? I would imagine you'd get much better performance out of that RAM if was clocked higher. Or does Speccy show the single channel speed meaing that those are actually 1866 sticks?

Yeah speccy is showing the single channel speed, they are 1866 sticks.

Figured as much with the looks of all the other components in there. Like I said before... hell of a machine!

Yah, thanks and would help me with picking the parts ? Are the ones I have chosen alright? And I will buy an HDD, can't I use this one simultaneously with the new one? And please suggest me a build around FX-43/6300 , will you?

Whats your budget?

edit: [strike]The old IDE HDD can´t be used with the new motherboards, no IDE connection there anymore, just the new standard SATA.

didn´t see that, sorry and thanks to madmatt30 for the correction, this gigabyte board has IDE, the old HDD will run on this board

minimum:

to play GTAV at minimum to medium detail:
add graphics card minimum gtx750 (+95$)

some suggestions:
2 sticks of memory are normally recommended for dual channel, so if you can afford it, add another 4GB RAM (+33$)

4GB, 250GB, gtx750, SSD instead of HDD
