compatible with a geforce gtx 980

Solution
As long as your motherboard has a PCI-Ex16 slot, the GTX 980 is compatible. However, there are other components that would factor in your final decision (CPU/Power Supply).

i ordered a 960 and they sent me a 980 i was wondering if i should use it or send it back

Slots: 1x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 Slot, 1x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 Slot (runs at x4), 2x PCI-Express 2.0 x1 Slots, 2x PCI Slots

Yes, it's compatible in the 1x PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, but again, you need to tell us your other components (CPU and Power Supply). A lower-end CPU will not allow your GTX 980 to perform at full capacity. A low-end power supply may not be sufficient to power the graphics card at all.

I am running a Intel Core i5-4430 Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.0 GHz 6 MB Cache LGA 1150 - BX80646I54430
And a EVGA 600B 80PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V/EPS12V Active PFC 600W Power Supply 100-B1-0600-KR will this work with a 980

Ok. No issues then. I just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to run this card on a 305 watt power supply or pairing it with Pentium G dual-core processor.

I know it's a great deal, getting a GTX 980 instead of what your ordered, but look at it this way. If it ever fails, you can't RMA it because it doesn't match your invoice. I'm not sure if you're required to show proof of purchase in order to activate a warranty period.
