Question (Complete build) I think I'm close, can you tell me if I screwed up somewhere?

Hi guys,

I've read up on a lot of stuff last couple of weeks, but I admit I'm definitly not a pro. Good job or brutally honest, give me your best shot! Can you help me out?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BsPnP3

Just a few thoughts behind the setup:
  • I based this around the ryzen CPU and the Samsung monitor (144 hz / 2k);
  • I picked the 2600 with after market cooler (together 160 bucks) over the 2600x with stock cooler (190 bucks) because of the price difference. I think I can (learn to) overclock to 2600x speeds;
  • Motherboard is nothing fancy, but still has overclocking features while being moderatly priced;
  • Ram is very expensive for my taste, but everywhere I go I keep reading you NEED 3200 mhz / 14 cas timings -> what's your verdict?;
  • SSD is not the best, but it's cheap, faster than a sata ssd and probably won't cause a bottleneck;
  • The video card is powerful, quiet, cool and power efficient, but most of all cheap. I got a good deal;
  • The tower is nothing special, just a mid range tower with mid range noise and thermals. I think it will do the job fine;
  • The keyboard and mouse I chose since I do like the RGB (my MoBo and graphic card also happen have RGB, why not make it a party?), but they still seem a bit down to earth -> not to flashy.
I'm not a FPS player (love Anno though!), I love the Samsung monitor and I'm currently thinking of stepping in to machine learning. Hence the RTX 2060.

Love to hear what you think!
Cheers!

That is a very solid build for your needs. An RTX 2060 and Ryzen 5 2600 is a very good combination.

Crucial is a top tier brand for ssds, so I don't think you will be disappointed by one of their NVME drives. The P1 is slightly faster than an Intel 660P NVME drive. An Intel 660p has blown me away with its performance since I am used to SATA SSD.

The only thing I could think of is merely a consideration. You could potentially get a 750w Seasonic FOCUS Plus 80+ Gold PSU for a similar price to the Corsair RMX 650w. Both are excellent PSUs, however, the Seasonic does offer more wattage. Still, 650 watts is enough for most any reasonable single GPU setup.

HAHA, that's the same monitor I have! $450 is a more realistic price though. And even at that, there's a bunch of monitors around $350 using the exact same Samsung panel (no QLED though, and brightness generally isn't as high)

You can get DDR4-3200 CA16 for $75. Absolutely no reason to spend double for CAS14. The frequency is the important thing.

XPG SX8200 Pro or HP EX950 500GB are both faster than the QLC Crucial P1 and are about $75.

Try the included Wraith cooler before you buy an aftermarket one.

650W 80+ Gold Modular PSUs with semi-passive fan like the SS Focus+ or EVGA G3 are around $65 on sale.

I've already bought the monitor. It's awesome! The colors are: WoW. And the Qled makes the black also Oled black.

Regarding the ram. Since I've posted my build I've heard a lot of people say that the cas 14 isnt necessary. I'm starting to believe that. Turns out the 2000 series is more robust and can handle different timings better than the 1000 series.

Thanks for the alternative SSD's suggestions. I've looked at them. They are indeed faster than the Crusial. Thing is. In my country (the Netherlands), they are also much more expensive and I've come to realise that the SSD speed isn't going to be a bottleneck in my build. So the money is not worth it for me in this area.

Now the PSU is interesting. The EVGA G3 is more expensive than the RM650x, but the SS focus plus is cheaper and actually got an award from a well known Dutch Hardware site: https://azerty.nl/product/seasonic/...SFZRzPt3IYbnaH3al0BSHz-pwXR6FvYxoCPTkQAvD_BwE

Thanks for your time!

I agree with the SSD swap and the ram swap.
In all reality, you won't notice a difference between the different CAS latency ram, so it is worth it to save some money there.

All of the PSU models above are pretty good, however, looking at the LTT PSU tier list, it shows the following:
Tier A+ (High End)
Corsair RMx
Tier A (Mid Range)
Seasonic FOCUS Gold
Tier B (Budget)
EVGA G3
Since the EVGA G3 is expensive and ranks lowest, I wouldn't pick that in this case. Personally, I think the G3 is a good PSU and doesn't belong in a tier with a CXM, however, if it cost more than an RMx, I wouldn't pick it.
The RMx 650 is a good unit and has similar or slightly higher quality than the SeaSonic FOCUS Gold 750, however, the RMx costs more and offers 100 watts less. Both are 80+ gold.
I would still stick to my original recommendation of the SS FOCUS Gold.

Just an FYI on the PSU, there's a Focus and a Focus+ model (confusing, I know). I would say the plain focus is inferior to the RMx (but still a fine unit) and the Focus+ is slightly better than the RMx.

Wasn't aware of Netherlands since your PCPartpicker list was US-based. Local pricing is always important in making component decisions. Any way you can tell us what websites you're actually shopping from?

Fair enough. I don't know why, but when I change the country in PC part picker, it doesn't stick. The prices in my list reflect the euro prices I have to pay.

There are a lot of shops to buy from. Most of the important onces are listed here on this website: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/829905/seasonic-focus-plus-750-gold.html

The top shops are -not necessarily in that order- (as can be found in the link above):
Megekko
Azerty
Coolblue.nl
Alternate.nl
Bol.com Plaza

And amazon sometimes has some surpises.

The others are credible and I trust them, but I don't know them very well / at all.

Regarding the PSU's. The RM650x is linked here: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1182859/corsair-rm650x-(2018)-zwart.html The lowest price is 102,90
The Seasonic Focus Plus is linked here: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/829905/seasonic-focus-plus-750-gold.html The lowest price is 104

Based on this list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1045610-new-psu-tier-list/ The RM650x model is in a higher tier than the Seasonic. Do you agree it makes sense to buy the RM650x?

Now the real question is: will it be efficient / enough. I've read (on more than one occasion) that the output should be double the watts the build requires. That's when the PSU is most efficient. So is the RM650x the best choice in this regard?

Compiled some of the recommended changes into a PC part picker list.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bDn2vn

Thanks for the suggestions. I do take the suggestions you made into consideration, but unfortunitly I think more people from the Netherlands came to the same conslusion.

The SSD is not priced 87 bucks, but 118 euro's in The Netherlands: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1331878/hp-ex950-512gb.html
The Seasonic focus gold is even a bit cheaper here than in the US: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1117325/seasonic-focus-gold-750w.html . Only 91 euro's, but acording to the list it's a tier below the RM650x (which costs 102,90 euro's). Question is: is the higher tier (and more power) worth 12 bucks (euro's)? Maybe the real question is: does my build need 750 or 650 watts. I think with this little of a price difference I would take the PSU with the right amount of watt.

The Ram though, it is something to think about. 75 euro's difference is a lot. I will definitly take that one under consideration.

What does a focus Plus gold cost in the Netherlands? Honestly, efficiency isn't something I considered.
Even though a Seasonic focus 750 and RMX650 are both 80+ gold efficient, the RMx will be closer to the peak of its efficiency curve with your components, meaning it will draw less power from the wall.

The Focus and Focus Plus are identical platforms. The only differences are the Focus is Semi-Modular and uses Seasonic SF2 series cooling tech and the Focus Plus is modular and uses a switchable hybrid SF3 series cooling tech instead.

Personally, all the hybrid crap in my pc is off, I'd rather the fans run a constant 20-40% than have them silent but suddenly kick in at 70% rpm. That's on gpu and psu. The gpu is @ 65°C, which is redundant since gaming can put it right there, so it's constantly ramping on/off with temps.

So, if like me, the eco hybrid stuff is useless additions, the Focus is a better option. Same thing, less money.

As a consequence, the Focus is only covered under warranty for 7 years, the Focus us for 10 years. I've had my Seasonic M12-II for 7 years, still purrs like it's new, 4 years out of warranty. But thats Seasonic for ya.

Thanks for the extra info.

During gaming I will use my headphones. Apart from that I personally prefer a fan that spins at 20-40% constantly than one that boots up every few minutes and spins at 70%. Consistancy is better. That being said. I will also use this computer for work and I will only be using word / excel (so no load at all). No game sounds to distract me. Then I would love some peace and quiet and no fan at all.

Can you recommend the seasonic focus normal / plus / RM650x in this situation?

Maybe this sounds a bit a princess on a pee and I should just suck it up and choose one! ;)

The Focus and RMx are pretty much in the same classification, excellent. So it often boils down to the little things. For some it warranty, for some it's brand (Seasonic builds their own products to their own standards, Corsair sub-contracts from Seasonic, SuperFlower etc). Some reports say the fan on the RMx is slightly better and quieter, but unless you are seriously loading the psu down, you won't hear it anyways
