Question Component shelf life

I'm considering collecting parts for a new build but that won't happen for a year or two. I'm wondering how sitting around unused affects components - mostly DRAM and SSD's at this point. With low prices would it be feasuble to buy them now and let them sit for a year or two?

Of course they will be....

The only issue you're going to have is that of time-based warranty coverage. What are you going to do about a widget that is bad out of the gate, and you haven't tested it until the final build--whenever that happens to be? Will the warranty still be in effect?

Not a good idea.
1. Over time component price/ performance gets better.
You will be able to buy those same parts cheaper. ... if you still want to.
2. In two years, much of today's parts will be close to obsolete.
For example, DDR4 is going to give way to DDR5.
  1. Your needs or ideas may well change in two years.
  2. The warranty on many parts will have expired.

I would not worry about parts deteriorating over time.
If you have the urge to spend, do so on parts that are not likely to change.
A good case perhaps or a good power supply for instance.
Drives, processors and motherboards would not be good early purchases.
