Compressed Air Brands

Hey there,

I would like to ask for your opinion on how to choose a can of compressed air to clean out dust which has built up over the year since I built my first computer. I am quiet surprised that there isn't too much dust inside, however, I prefer to keep it clean and I wouldn't like to wait until it gets worser. Could you recommend me any products from Amazon? Or would this one be ok: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Durable-Powerclean-Standard-Air-Duster/dp/B000NJXZ46/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1514487267&sr=8-4&keywords=compressed%2Bair%2Bcan%2Bfor%2Bpc&th=1

There is a lot of cheap brands and if I am planning to use it on my computer I wouldn't like to risk anything. If you click on the link above, it should take you to a product which looked the most familiar to me even though it is quiet cheap. It is HCF free, you are able to invert it without getting any moisture on the parts, however, it is highly flammable which is making me skeptical. There is also lot of other air dusters which are flammable and have positive reviews. And would 200 ml be enough? If you have any experience with any brands please do attach the links as well.

Many thanks,
Jacob

Hi, I clean my PCs out once every 6 months with compressed air. I highly recommend getting 2 or more cans to use. As you use the cans, they get extremely cold and the colder they get, the less air pressure they have. They literally can cause frost bite to your hands so you have to be careful in the way you hold them. What I do is use one can for a few minutes until it gets too cold then switch to a 2nd can.

I can't recommend any specific brand, any of them will work.

Almost all of them are flammable and I wouldn't worry about it. The air/moisture should evaporate by the time you get the cover back on the PC. Most cans will squirt a small amount of liquid out if you hold them sideways or upside down. You should never have your PC...

I don't recommend using too much air pressure either. Use just enough to blow the dust out. When possible, don't let fans spin as your blow on them because it can cause the bearings to break (hearsay).

The cans can be expensive over years of usage. You might want to consider one of these mini air compressor blowers for cleaning your PC. I have considered one but the cost is also high on those.

I hope some of this helps.

Thank you so much. Really good and useful tips. I am aware of most of them, but I will make sure to make hold of them. I tried to google and find some recommendations for brands so I don't end up buying something which will basically kill my PC. That is why I was so skeptical of those flammable air dusters, but as you said, they shouldn't harm the components as long as my PC is turned off and unplugged. Would you be able to tell me the brand or attach a link of those which you have used? It would help, but if you don't remember the exact brand then don't worry I will try to look at reviews and other forums. I also heard of those compressors but I could buy 10 of those cans for the price of one. Might consider it later on but I don't think I will need it that often. Thank you again. +1

"Brand"? I use whatever is on the shelf at my local grocery store.
There really isn't a "best".

"Flammable" in the case of if you aimed it a campfire and hit the trigger. It not going to spontaneously combust.

Power off when you do this.

I'm assuming your from the UK from the link you posted (amazon.co.uk). I'm from the US. I don't know if we will have the same products available to us or not, but here are the ones that I use.

I think I bought a package of 4 cans. Any brand should work. If they vary in air pressure, it's probably not by much and that's the only thing that could cause damage is too much pressure (or using the can sideways as discussed earlier).
