Computer acting strange

My PC that I've had since 2011 is starting to act strange. I'm very happy with it otherwise so I don't really feel any need to buy a new one. But a while ago it randomly started changing harddrive setting in BIOS from AHCI to IDE which then cause the computer not being able to boot. Took me a long while to figure out I had to get into BIOS to change setting back to AHCI.

Not only that...sometimes it will just feeze and then when I try to restart it, the PC will just try to boot on and then instantly shut off (no beep, no anything) and then repeat the process until I power it off. A couple of things seems to have worked to get it started from this state. One is to remove the CMOS battery and then put it back in. The other thing that seemed to work is to twiddle with the CPU fan.

So I am thinking that this could be a CPU fan problem, or maybe need to change the CMOS battery? Or do you guys think it something worse, lika a failing drive or motherboard?

Sure...

MSI P67 C43 rev B3
Corsair 12 GB DDR3
Corsair CX 430W v2 80 PSU
Radeon HD5450 1GB
Intel Core i5 2500k 3Ghz
Windows 7 64

Not sure if you need additional information?

I did check the CPU temp but I don't really know where it should be. Today I was watching Youtube and the computer suddenly freezes. PC tries to reboot again and again and I turn of the power and after a while it will boot to Windows. Before it boots to Win it gives me a "Overclocking has failed" message. I have never overclocked my CPU ever. I had to choose F1 to get into BIOS.

Never used thermal paste by the way.
