Question computer asks me to format my USB drive

Hi.I m looking for some help. My TDK USB suddenly stopped working. It still blinks but when I plug it in,it asks me for format the drive.it is encrypted with PGP.When it was working it prompted me to input PGP password.now just asks to format the drive. my computer is running on Windows 7 enterprise.is there any way I could retrieve the data I stored there?

Usually in cases like this I would give TestDisk a try.
But the first thing I would do is make a backup of the drive and work with the backup. Not that you end up doing something on the actual drive you can't undo later.
And I don't mean simply copying the data over, but an actual image of the drive itself.
