I have recently bout a TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless card to add into my desktop as well as an Asus RT-N66U since I cant run an ethernet cord and the 2.4ghz band is being overloaded by nearby apartments. I thought that the 5 ghz would help with this since none of the other apartments have a 5ghz band running. Although the new router did help a little bit, I am going to be using my desktop to stream games to and from using steam streaming and xbox streaming and I will need the 5 ghz for this.

Problem:
When I try to connect to the 5 ghz network I get an error but I can connect to the 2.4 ghz frequency without a problem. I have checked to make sure that the password is the same on both networks and that the password I am inputting is correct. Any suggestions on this subject would be very appreciated.

Most likely a range issue - - The 5GHz band has a shorter range than the 2.4GHz one.

You may have to buy a dual-band range extender and site it between your router and your desktop.
I did that - - now my wife has 5 bars WiFi in living room instead of two bars it had previously, so no more lost signal.

Mind you, a range extender does involve a speed drop so there is a downside to it. But a bit less speed is better than having no signal at all.

I understand thinking that it is a range issue, but even with the desktop 30 ft away from the router and a clear line of sight it still doesn't connect. Also, other laptops and phones can connect to the router with no problems and is much faster due to less interference.

It could be a security settings issue...is the security the same on each band like wpa 2? You may also want to make microsoft "forget" the neywork and have it re scan and connect like it was the first time. The steps for making windows forget a network varies depending on version but a wuick google search should set you up.

Even removing the password all together and making it an open network I still get an error trying to connect
