...and it's writen: PLEASE CHECK SIGNAL CABLE.

Hi there,

when I open my computer everything starts booting like normal but the screen won't turn on and says PLEASE CHECK SIGNAL CABLE. After a few seconds it says OFF MODE IN 5 SECONDS then the screen "turns off".

I'm at a loss right now. I had this problem with my previous computer but it stoped on it's own.

On my powerbar (with surge protection) there's a green light (to tell it's ON) and there's a red light (I think it's for power losses or something). The red light goes on and off.

Is it a power issue in my appartment? Or maybe my powerbar is dead?

Do you have any clues?
Thanks a lot.

Did you check the cable at the back of the monitor? 😛

Make sure everythings plugged in correctly..if it is, time to get a new monitor if it can't read a signal.

You think it could be my monitor? Thats not good
Even if it worked like a charm and if I have it for less than 3 years?
I loved my monitor (Viewsonic P95f+b)

That's just my assumption...I'm no expert on monitors.

You didn't answer the question about checking the connections on the back of the monitor and machine btw.

I'm at work now so i'll check it tonight. But I don't consider me a "noob" in computers so I'm sure it's not a cable thing, but it's worth a look anyhow.

I'll try another powerbar and plugging my monitor directly in the wall to see if thats better.

uhm, I don't think it has to do with power...if the monitor is "on" and displaying a message that means it has power...

It's not reading a signal, meaning it's not seeing the computer...so it's the cable between your computer and monitor that's either the issue, or it's the monitor itself...could be the card, but I doubt it.

I'm sure it's not my video card, I have it since january and it work like a charm and runs rock solid. I'll try it on another computer just in case though.

For the monitor, i'll try it on another computer too.

I'll try everything in my power to test my computer and i'll report here if I find something.

Thanks again.

Ok now my monitor turns on but I have (again) random reboots.

It starts with nothing responding at all, no mouse, keyboard and if i'm in a game then the sound "jam". Then the comp reboots itself.

I've checked everything I had to, drivers updated, hardware well seated, cables well plugged. I'm at a complete loss.

I'm pretty sure it's hardware or power related. Everything in my comp is fairly new (less than a year old since I bought them).

Any clues?
Thanks

Ok here's the status:

Yesterday morning my monitor was not receiving a signal (PLEASE CHECK SIGNAL CABLE). When I came back from work, my comp was booting and the monitor was ok (don't know why). Then those lock ups and reboots occured again all evening.

This morning, my monitor isn't receiving any signal again.

Here's what i've done this morning to test:

1- Plugged another computer with my monitor: WORKING

2- Plugged my 6800GS in the other computer: WORKING

3- Plugged an old Hercules 3DProphet 4500 Kyro2 in my comp: WORKING

4- Re-plugged my 6800GS in my comp: NOT WORKING

5- Tried another powerbar: NOT WORKING

6- Plugged my comp in another room in my appartment: NOT WORKING

So it's not a power issue since everything is powered up and starts running.
Could it be my motherboard or the AGP slot is defect?

I'd really love some ideas to where to check next, i'm really at a loss right now, i can't find anything else to try or check.

Thanks again.
