The last month I've been experiencing problems with my custom pc. Poor guys pushing almost 5 years now and I think he's going through a rough patch. Within no specific time frame (could be 2 hours or longer than a day) my computer will randomly switch off. When i try to power the pc back up the power 'pulsates,' all fans experience this power surging or whatever is going on except the cpu fan (basically the computer wont boot and i think it's cause of the cpu fan). I can spend 5 minutes disconnecting and reconnecting the psu from the wall (waiting to discharge mobo etc.) or an hour before it finally ticks over. Any help is appreciated

Components:

Cpu - i7 950
Cpu cooler - stock (yeah yeah i know haha)
Mobo - Asus P6x58d-e
Psu - corsair Hx850

Cheers guys

How many times have you cleaned it in the past 1 year? If you haven't opened it at all, there could be a huge amount of dust inside. Also see what are your temps while the PC is on.

I do clean it, recently re-pasted the cpu aswell. Cpu temps sit a little high on 43C when idle, 61C when under considerable load and hits 83C when under max load. The computer shuts off when under no load. system and mobo temps under 36C and hdd's sit uner 35C

Hmm, i had a very similar problem with my old computer, but everything was ok after cleaning. Sorry, i can't provide a solution.

Turns out one stick of ram was faulting and not letting the system post. Even though a few days ago i left it on over night to preform memtest86 and they were all good. Must just have its moments. Cheers
