Ok guys so if more information is needed just tell me and I will do all in my power to provide it. I am FED UP with my connection speed. I use www.speedtest.net and get this. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4192517187 While this would be fine to me if it actually downloaded it at that speed, it does not. I use steam mostly for my games and have a constant rate of about 500 kb/s download speed. It WILL NOT go higher than 600 kb/s. I just tonight took my pc to my friends house to try to download some stuff faster but it would start out at about 1.5 mb/s but then drop to the regular 500 kb/s. His internet on speedtest is rated at 15 mb/s and he was downloading on steam at about 10mb/s. My question here is what could be slowing my download rate so much? At home my computer has a Rosewill Wireless adapter that I connect to the wifi with. At his house I was wired into the router itself. I'm up to try any solutions so throw them at me!

Tried solutions: Disabled Avast!, restarted modem and router, and allowed programs through firewall.

PC Specs-NZXT Phantom Case
i5-3570k 3.4ghz (non-overclocked)
Asrock Z77 Extreme4 Mobo
G. Skill Ripjaws 12gb 1600mhz
Rosewill RNWD-N9003PCE - Dual Band Wireless N900 Adapter
EVGA GTX 670 FTW Graphics card
Rosewill 650 Watt Capstone power supply

Its probably because you are using a wireless internet adapter. Go with a Ethernet Cable they are more efficient

Sadly I cannot with the placement of the computer and the router :/ I've tried

Also DANGGGGG 240 mb/s on speedtest what the hell do you have? XD

Yea that could also be the case for him.

For me it says KB/S on steam but on Glyph launcher for a separate game it's KB/s

So basically I have a 4.4 megaBIT connection which translates to 500 kiloBYTES per second? Doesn't explain much as to why it didn't go any faster plugged into a router at my friends who downloaded dying light in under 30 mins as where it still gave me my standard connection speed of 500kb/s and 6 hours to download it.

I know we have different providers and I live in the middle of no where lol thanks for all the help still wish it was faster tho oh well when I upgrade soon hopefully I'll get better

Yeah - I wish mine was faster too. I use ADSL2+ but even though I'm only 15km from Melbourne CBD, they class it as Regional and my provider can only give me 'Off-net' - through someone elses network. And the local exchange needs upgrading. I've been told that should happen in about 3 years. Meanwhile, I'm happy going from 1.5mb/s to 4.5 mb/s. I could pay more to get another 2 mb/s but its not worth paying nearly double.
