Hi,

I've been having trouble with my build locking up (LED's don't do anything). I've tried everything I can think of and I'm at my wits end.

Build Specifics

Processor: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turb )
Mobo: MSI Z77 MPOWER LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s
Disk: TOSHIBA PH3200U-1I72 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA
Memory :G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR
PSU: CORSAIR| HX750 750W RT
CPU Cooling: ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
GPU: GEFORCE GTX760

What I've done So Far...

I downloaded EVGA PRecisiosn X and Speed fan to monitor and Log Temps. So far nothing seems odd. GPU gets to about 65 C playing games and CPU goes to about 45 C and 35 under normal load.

I thought maybe Power problem because it started Freezing more often...(I was so confident I bought that 750W listed above. It didn't help). With the new PSU it seems to be freezing less often but still with in 20 minutes. Though it seems I can search the Internet and such just fine as of right now.

I downloaded PC-Doctor and Removed GPU:

I do get unknown errors pretty consistently on Stress test there. Advanced Pattern Test etc... This also coincides with a lock up.

I see in my PC Doctor History that I've had a Unknown Driver (usbport.sys) cause a crash but most of the freezes on PC Doctor just say "CPU experienced an unexpected shutdown" <-- Not helpful.

I ran the MEMTEST +86 on my Ubuntu Grub screen. No memory problems. Tested with individual sticks as well.

I ran Window memory Diagnostic... Nothing.

I downloaded Driver Doctor to see if I had bad Drivers... Updated everything and still I freeze.

I'm losing sleep and I can't focus until I figure this out (only somewhat kidding). Hopefully somebody has some promising direction I can look in.

Thanks.

Make sure you have restart when system fail enabled..I cannot recall the exact wording but It may be different anyway depending if your on Win 7 or 8. It should write to a file of what caused the error in a dmp file. note: you may require a tool to deccrypt the language. Also in the action center you can view the history of errors. Often a Memory issue has the Locale ID 1033 then some BCC code. It sounds like Bad Memory jsut from the info i read so far. I had one total freeze and it was while watching media with VLC...But the other Blue screens automatically restart in a few seconds, my PC Build which is similar to yours, i5 3570k and a Z77 chipset.

What do you mean by "locking up"?
Do you mean locking your computer and putting it to sleep, or "finishing up" your build?
If you are locking it up (turning it off), are you sure the LED's are supposed to turn on/off?

No I mean the OS locks up. I can't move the mouse, ctrl+alt+delete or anything. Nothing but a hard reboot will do anything. Also, about 50% of the time it just reboots itself instead of freezing or 'Locking up'. Then it fails a few reboots before being successful.

"CPU goes to about 45 C and 35 under normal load."

@OP : Check all your connections to the board. SATA, Power, PCI-E, everything. Make sure they're all securely fastened in. It sounds to me like your motherboard might be on it's way out.

Bad memory stick... I had checked the sticks individually before but didn't let one of them run long enough I guess and it got lucky and passed. I tried this strategy again and found one was bad. This particularlly confused me because i had a lock up while in my BIOS, which I figured wasn't using my RAM... but oh well it all working well now.

Thanks!
