Hi guys I haven’t built a computer in about 20 years and my daughter has had interest in building one recently. I was wondering if I can use my older gaming computer and replace pieces as we get extra money? Was going to order a new motherboard and cpu first and was hoping my windows 10 would work on it to use until I can get a hard drive, windows 11, video card, etc? I also was wondering can I just swap my ram into the new motherboard to hold off on buying that? Also what would you guys recommend me to buy I have done some research but curious what everyone else might think with motherboard and processor?

You can get a cheap USB stick, download Windows installer and use the free version of Windows 11 for now.

If you are planning to re-use the RAM, that would limit you to older motherboards that accept DDR3, and CPUs that fit those sockets.
Your budget will allow for a pretty nice system, and I think you and your daughter would enjoy building a completely new one from new parts.

I think the build list in the post above is mostly good, but I would highly recommend a SSD that mounts to the M.2 slot rather than a SATA model, it will gain you some performance.

The board offers up to PCI Express 4 support - I wouldn't go overboard on a high-end SSD, but this one for 90 bucks is PCI Express 3 which is still fast.
https://www.newegg.com/sabrent-rock...-_-2-_-9SIAME8ARP9899-_-m.2 ssd-_-m.2|ssd-_-6

That would also remove the need for the hard drive mounting kit and save a few bucks there.

I will take a better look when I get home and maybe order everything!!

It looks like the motherboard isn’t wifi? Is there one similar that supports wifi and maybe even Bluetooth?

A FX system is all but obsolete.
List the make/model of your case, psu and drives to see if they have any reuse value.
With your budget, I would start completely over and relegate the current system to some other purpose.
I am going to start all over if I can keep the system around $1k or so… give or take.

I do not much like your picks.
If you are going to buy new and not used, you get better value from current gen products.
For example, the 12th gen I3-12100 processor sells for $135:
https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i3-12100-core-i3-12th-gen/p/N82E16819118370?quicklink=true
It comes with a cooler, and it includes integrated graphics.
Integrated graphics lets you defer on the graphics card until prices stabilize and you better know what you want. Intel is due to launch it's cards soon, and I think that will lower the current prices.
Newegg lists the 3500X at $170.
I3-12100 has 8 threads and a passmark rating of 14540. That is when all 8 threads are fully loaded.
For games, expect to effectively use 4-6 threads.
The single thread rating is 3550. The single thread rating is arguably the more important spec for gaming and desktop quickness.
R5-3500X has 6 threads and a rating of 18303 which is better for batch apps, but the
2530 rating is not as good for games and quickness.
Try running the cpu-Z bench test on your FX-4300.
You should get a score about 250:
https://valid.x86.fr/bench/zksrpi/1
The i3-12100 will be about 657:
http://valid.x86.fr/bench/simj7f/1
3500x is about486.
Here is a review of thee i3-12100:
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-core-i3-12100-12100f-review

A MATX B660 DDR4 motherboard with wifi might be about $150:
A bit less without wifi.

The 3200 speed ram you picked is fine for Intel.
But for amd, which is tightly connected to ram, you would want 2600 speed.

The case is fine.

On the psu, 550w is ok for a 3050 gpu.
But, if, in time you might want to upgrade the graphics card,
Here is a handy chart for sizing a psu:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm
I would buy 650w or even 750w.
The 12100 processor can be good for a much stronger processor.
A psu will only use the power demanded of it, regardless of the max capability.
I do not know much about Phanteks power supplies.
With a 10 year warranty, they are likely made by seasonic.

On storage, I would consider 2tb if it fits your budget.
And for reliability, Puget systems thinks highly of the Samsung ssd devices:

Also what about this internal hard drive instead of the other one

WD Red 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6Gb/s, SMR, 256MB Cache, 3.5" - WD60EFAX

Yes I could also upgrade to a i5 if that would be better? As long as I can hold off on the gpu I can afford more

All 12400 models are i-5.

Next step up is 12500, then 12600; all i-5

There are 2 models of the 12500

There are 4 models of the 12600.

Normally, you'd want to choose among:

plain 12400

plain 12500

plain 12600

12600K

The 12600 K can be overclocked. The others can't.

ALL of them have integrated video.

Which of those CAN'T you afford?

Looks like the 12600k would be the best? If so it would be in my budget as I wouldn’t have to have a gpu so that would balance it and can add that later as you said
