Had a couple of old cases laying around and bought this cooler as well as some new components and was going to slap them all together. I was a little foolish and didn't double-check the height and sheer massive size of the NH-D14 heatsinks. Needless to say, those cases won't close with this heatsink, they just don't have enough depth.

There probably isn't a ton of variation in the height added by the motherboard/cpu socket, but for reference, I opted for the MSI X99S Gaming 7 board.

So what I was wondering is if anyone could give me some suggestions for cases that will fit this cooling solution. I don't need anything fancy, it just needs to have at least 4 hdd slots, at least 2 slots for dvd drives.

Well, I have a NH-D15 in a Fractal Arc XL (on a Gigabtye Z97X-UD5H ..at least it was still attached to it last time I checked 😉). But even there, if you've got some of this silly-height RAM e.g. Corsair Vengence, and the second fan is raised to allow for it, then it won't fit. I had to send back some Vengence, and replaced it with Kingston Hyper X Fury.

FWIW, I think the Arc XL is a very nice case. But I'm old and conservative.
CM 690 III, according to D14's spec, its height is 160mm, 690 III can take up to 171, has plenty of options for fan placements, 3 external 5.25" slots and 7 3.5:/2.5" slots with space elsewhere in the case for 3 more 2.5"

EDIT: it seems the case has been out of stock on Newegg for a while though..

Darn. Thanks for the suggestion! Hoping to get a case as soon as possible. Worse comes to worst, I can spend a bit more on something fancy, but any eye-candy is gonna go to waste for the most part since my tower is gonna sit behind my monitors in the corner of the room.
