Will this work. I haven't bought it yet but these are the specs (i'm trying to upgrade my current pc)

SPECS:

i5 4690k
gtx 970
650 watt psu
ASUS H81M-PLUS
CiT Vantage 8818B Gaming Case

Solution
It will work, though you'd be better looking at Z87 or Z97 based mother board.
Also, a PSU model is important as they are not equal.

I have decided to go with

AMD FX 4350 (Current cpu) Checked and shouldn't bottleneck
Current mother board
Gtx 970
And a psu (550 watt or 650 watt?)

Will this work instead... i have changed as i found that buying a new motherboard requires buying a new OS, this will make me go over budget so thats why i have cut back and possibly buy a cpu and motherboard in the future

it's not important how many watts, quality is important.
any of those will do:
