Computer constantly refreshes

it also closes some applications constantly every second while it refreshes. Sometimes when it refreshes I get a message saying the memory could not be read. After the computer has been on for about five minutes then the refreshing stops and continues later on through use. I could harly use my computer.. HELP!!
