Computer decides to slow down

Hey guys so I built this computer about 4 months ago and all of a sudden it decides to slow down by A LOT. Explorer.exe would crash whenever I right click in it and Google Chrome takes 20 minutes to star (legit no joke.) I have scanned for viruses and checked msconfig for startup programs. My Specs are below:
CPU: Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-6600 @ Stock Speeds
VGA Card: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 960 G1 Gaming @ 1241 Mhz
Mobo: Gigabyte H170-HD3
Cooler: Stock Intel Heatsink (R.I.P)
RAM: HyperX FURY 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2133 RAM
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SATA 3
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB 64MB
PSU: Corsair CX500M PSU
Case: Corsair Carbide 200R Mid Tower ATX Case
O.S: Windows 10 Home

Check temps and scan for viruses. This issue can also mean a faulty harddrive (if you install your stuff on the hdd instead of the ssd)

I have scanned for viruses and checked the temps. They're all pretty normal (I think, around 40 something Celsius with itunes and firefox on) . I have scanned my hard drive and nothing came up. I'm doing a maintenance soon though.

Try running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

I'm surprised if its the HDD as that is the same one that I have, mines been running for 2 years no problem but I now have it as secondary as I now have an SSD as the OS installation.

Just recently are DVR's HDD at my place of work died and it was the 500GB model of the WD blue, it had been running for 5 years constantly writing video onto it from the DVR. It almost certainly died from reaching its write limit (Yes HDD's and SSD's do have write limits) which is very very impressive.

You may of just been unbelievably lucky and got a dud drive which would suck, usually if the new HDD lasts a year it will be fine for the rest of its life as the first few months anything can happen.

Do you have a spare HDD you can put in to test?

A new HDD failing is very unlikely but, if the temps are normal and there are no virus, the HDD is probably to blame. I had this problem before. Maybe the HDD was damaged during shipping.

I will be checking my HDD however that is not my primary hard drive. I have most of my things including chrome on my SSD so I'm kinda annoyed.

Did you try the System File Checker (sfc /scannow)?

Try disabling the secondary hdd drive in device manager under disks if the problem persists try disabling any CD drive in Dev manager too. Although you may have to open up and unplug them to get a proper disconnection.

Nevermind I fixed it. It just decided to die for the past week for some reason but it's all good now. Thank you guys for the contribution
