Computer doesn't recognize keyboard???

My friend can't get into his PC's bios, because the keyboard doesn't work until the windows login screen... Any ideas?

Try a native PS/2 keyboard if the PC has PS/2 ports.

That is what we have been using... Still doesn't work. The computer is stuck loading windows for a long time, and usually doesn't make it to the login page without freezing... Hard drive damage??
