There are a number of possibilities.

"it woul spin but stop and go a bit back and repreat as if it was hitting something" It's still possible it is hitting something. There could be something in front of the fan that it is hitting or there could be something inside the fan motor that has come loose and it is hitting that internally. To check it power down, remove the fan from the case, make sure it its electrical connection is made to the same place, and power up again. If it does the same thing there is probably a problem inside the fan rather than at the case mounting. If it runs Ok outside the case then look into the area where it is mounted and see if you can find a problem there. Also look at the side of the fan blades and hub on...

It is it rubbing against something there should be scratches where it is rubbing.

"Going a bit back" is normal if the fan is shutting off. It's called cogging and all permanent magnet motors do this to one degree or another.

The other option is it has just worn out.
