Hi all, I started my 'Frankenstein' build roughly 2011 I believe.
My current specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i5 2500 @ 3.30GHz
Ram: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz (Corsair Vengance)
Mobo: Gigabyte Z77-DS3H
GPU: KFA2 GTX 970 4GB Infinity edition
Storage: 500GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKS-60A7B2 ATA Device (SATA) & 500GB Seagate ST3500630AS ATA Device (SATA)
PSU: Corsair CX500
The only thing I've changed since I built my PC is my GPU from a 660Ti, and after a couple weeks of using my 970 my computer would freeze up regularly. My father (Who's an IT technician) tested the memory with flying colours, a stress test on my GPU it ran fine without freezing and a stress test on my CPU and that also ran fine.
I was running a Crucial 64GB onboard SSD drive (which I installed along with my GPU) and I suspected that had caused the freezes. After removing it, my pc didnt freeze as often.
As my brothers friend was using my PC to play minecraft a loud sound started, and after removing the side panel it was coming from the PSU, which I suspect was the fan. A few minutes after removing the side panel the sound stopped. Could my PSU be causing these crashes? I really need help as its bugging me. However for the past two or three days there has been no crashed so I am really confused.
My CPU idles at 37 degrees Celsius; my GPU idles at 34; my HDD's idle at 34 and 36.
Being 15 I dont exactly have the money to buy loads of new components, so any easy fixes would be appreciated. If its the PSU I will be happy as I have a spare.
Any help is appreciated, thankyou 😀
EDIT: When my computer freezes it is completely unresponsive and the sound is almost as if it has paused on that single fraction of sound and makes a dreaful noise through my speakers. The only way to un-freeze my PC is a hard reset 🙁
