So recently my computer starting crashing a lot and blue screening. I have a MSI z87-GD65 with a Core i5 4670k. I ran it at a modest overclock of 4.2Ghz with a core voltage of 1.175. Definitely not enough to cause problems. Temps always stayed under 60 degrees Celsius.

So I put all my settings to stock and tested my RAM with memtest86+ for 12 hours and there were no errors or freezes. At this point I am thinking its either the motherboard or CPU. I have reflashed the bios with no effect. What are your thought? Should I try RMA the CPU?

I have tried Prime95 both in windows and in DOS with the CPU at stock settings and it still freezes and does not pass.

you'll be lucky if you get it replaced. usually over clocking voids any warranty on your cpu.
running overclocking with a stock cooler is a terrible idea, i hope you had an after market cooler to compliment your I5.
you might wonder how they would know you over clocked? they will look at the transistors and will be able to tell.
And as a personal preference, msi sucks. I would go with ASUS as their mobos are epic and customer service/support is legendary.

I wasn't running a stock cooler. Had a Corsair H100i liquid cooler. Well it doesn't hurt to try and RMA it. Worse comes to worse they just send it back.

nice choice for the cooling. well played. if they do send it back that would be very low on intels behalf.
hopefully they call it a faulty chip and send you a new one. i'll keep my toes crossed for you buddy!
if they ask about over clocking, deny everything, play stupid and you should be ini the clear. in the end, its a corporation, and they would rather lose a chip, than have a customer turn into a die hard amd fanboy/girl.

past couple years they have been getting kind of cranky about over clockers killing their cpu's and trying to rma them.
understandably. but when they send a faulty chip that would have otherwise worked just fine regardless of overclocking or not it is their fault, and their responsibility to replace the faulty product with new product. free of defects. as stated in the warranty information booklet.

Thanks everyone. I will call up intel sometime this week and see what I can do. Appreciate the support. As much as I am happy with this MSI board, I was hoping I wouldn't have to call them up and deal with their warranty service, as I have heard it is subpar.
