Computer freezes on last frame while playing games. ($50 if you fix)

So while playing games. At random times. My computer will freeze. The keyboard lights shut off (Razer Blackwidow Chroma) and the screen stays on the last frame.

All of my hardware is brand new (less then a week old) and this has happened 4 times in the last week, on 3 different games.

The only way to get out of this freeze is to power the PC off, and then turn it back on. Everything is unresponsive.

*THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN GAMES, NOT WHILE IM JUST RANDOMLY BROWSING THE INTERNET*

Any help?

Solution

Don't you mean BIOS Version A.8 from 2016-03-02?

There have been many compatibility fixes between your original BIOS version and the latest BIOS version so only through testing of your system with the newest BIOS will reveal whether or not your problem has been resolved.

Are you monitoring your temps while gaming, Are your GPU drivers up to date? Have you tries to delete the cache in games ini files? And can try to run DX diagnostic by opening DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button and typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER

What's the brand and model of the power supply unit?

Do you have two memory modules? If you have two modules place them on different memory channels to get dual-channel mode for better memory performance.

What do the Windows Event logs show in terms of errors?

I'm going to assume CTRL-ALT-DEL or ALT-F4 don't do anything when this happens?

If it is only in games, my thinking is it might be heat related. Do you have any benchmarks you could run other than games to see if it freezes up under another heavy load?

How do I put them on different channels? The PSU is a corsair 850W 80 bronze efficiency.

The computer isn't blue screening. It's simply freezing on the last frame.

All my temps are normal during gaming. I have a water cooled CPU and 3 fans on my GPU.

It's def not. I have a water cooled CPU and 3 fans on my GPU. CPU temp maxes at 30c while gaming and GPU maxes at 61c

No, ctrl alt del doesn't work when it happens

Temps are normal. GPU drivers are up to date. In fact I got a new GPU yesterday, This was happening with my old gpu and my new GPU which means it's not a gpu problem.

I accidently marked this post as a solution how to i take it off lol

The DIMM2 and DIMM4 memory slots are on the end of the memory bus and should be used first because it properly terminates the memory bus preventing signal reflections that can cause problems.

I.E. Place the two DIMMs in the two black memory slots on your motherboard. It's even silk-screened right on the motherboard which two slots should be used first.

I put the other 8GB stick in the black slot. Now my computer says it's single channel 8GB of ram. How do I get it to read 16GB dual channel?

Looks like the second memory channel on the motherboard isn't working. Could be a damaged contact in the CPU socket that corresponds to that memory channel.

Does a single DIMM only in the DIMM3 slot work? If it doesn't then for sure the second memory channel has a problem.

Nevermind, I got it. You know you're an idiot when you don't know how to install ram, haha.

All good now? https://gyazo.com/b9b9b6375429cb3c1f06238575f25fc3 Why does it say unknown though? just curious. Also, It was 1066 mhz but I turned XMP on in my bios and now it's 1199

Did you buy name brand or generic DDR4 DIMMs?

No, the ram wasn't fully clicked in. I fixed it by clicking it in, what about all the other stuff?

My bios was from 7/15/15

I just updated it to the one from 3/2/15

Could that have been causing it?
