Computer Freezes / Restarts when playing games

Hey guys I have been having a problem lately with my computer. When i am watching a stram on twitch or playing a game like league of legends or payday2, my computer either freezes (when watching a stream) or restarts WITHOUT BSOD (when playing). I had this problem 3 months ago and i switched my gpu and it stopped for a few months and now its doing it again. My temperatures are bellow 40 normally and when playing games it is around mid 60s for gpu and cpu. I havee read other posts and they say it is the psu not giving enough power but others say its lots of different stuff. I could really use some help thanks!

I would say psu too, the restarts without bsod says sudden failure, sounds like psu voltage drop

Hi there BrazilianBeast,

I would also say that this is most probably caused by a faulty PSU. You can use some software tool to stress your system and see if it will restart again.
Unfortunately, the easiest way to see if your PSU is faulty, is to just install another one on its place. I believe you can just borrow a PSU from somebody just to try that out.

I just find it weird that after i changed the gpu, it was fine for around 2 months. also when i put my build on pcpartpicker, it says i have enough voltage.

i will go and buy a new psu today if there arent any other possibilities, i will report back within a week if it worked or sooner if it didnt.

also, did the low voltage damage my gpu?

Have you tried to update your GPU drivers? It may be a good idea to do so.
Well, unfortunately, faulty PSU could damage many PC components. Yet, your GPU may be just fine.
Just see how your system would run with another PSU.

I have all my drivers up to date for sure. I bought a new psu yesterday now its a matter of waiting for something bad to happen. Ill keep you guys posted incase other people are having the same problem.

Hey i got a new psu with 850v and so far so good. i have been playing assassin's creed rouge and other games, watching twitch streams and other videos online and had no problems so far. it has been a little over a week i think so i guess the problem is fixed! thank you so much for the help

hey guys its me again... so my computer is freezing again 🙁 its happening the same way as before even though i got the new psu! it was working fine up until today so i honestly do not know why. the weird part about this is that after replacing my gpu, like i said before, it worked for a few months too. if you guys have any ideas please let me know.

also if you guys think i should make a new post let me know too.

I would uninstall any third party apps for monitoring or overclocking, like asus gpu tweak or similar, they did this freezing to me. you can always reinstall later

i dont think i have any of those apps and if i do i dont think its running. i dont like running programs in the background.

could it have been that my pc was dusty? after replacing the parts i cleaned off some of the dust but i never cleaned it any other time... i just find it weird that it works fine after i replace a big part for a few months and then it messes up again

There is so much more to a power supply than just wattage. Wattage is the least important thing, it's not really even something of importance. The voltage stability and how the voltage behaves under different scenarios is what really matters. In addition, the build quality, how high-grade the components are inside, because if the manufacturer cheaps out, it can fail quickly and at times damage hardware. A computer power supply won't run out of power. It would be an extremely rare context where power would hit a peak. All those people saying the power supply "is not supplying enough power" on many threads are incorrect.

Raidmax, that's your first problem right there. The majority of their units are junk. Oh, and a general rule of thumb is that 99% of units with LEDs suck, too.

Oops sorry, I skimmed over this thread too quickly. Sounds like it might be a motherboard problem, then. Which your original PSU could have played a role in slowly degrading.
