Computer freezes (screen stays on last thing shown)

I built a PC in November last year which has had this problem since day one. when playing some games or watching videos on chrome, the computer will freeze completely, playing the last tone as a buzzing sound for a few seconds before going silent. not sure what the problem is, but it is really annoying and i would like a fix soon. PC runs windows 8.1 and all components are compatible and don't seem broken.

i tried that with one of the memory cards and it made no apparent difference.

Hi there Wilard,

You can change the port you are connecting the RAM stick to as well. Also, you can test it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-1906201/test-memory-memtest.html
What is your CPU? In case it has integrated graphics, you can take your GPU out and see whether you will get the same freezes. If not, you can update your GPU drivers and see whether the issue persists.

I know this is a few years late, but the issue was with the drivers for the network card being incompatible with the operating system.
