Question Computer freezes when I open external hard drive

As the title says, I plug in my external hard drive of 2 years, no problem, but as soon as I open it it instantly crashes my pc and the hard drive. Now I know the drive isn't faulty because I plugged it in my laptop and it works perfectly fine. Can anyone help me out?

Perhaps see if you're able to manually reinstall your chipset/storage drivers, in an elevated command, assuming you're working with Windows OS, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

If you're indeed on Windows, check and see if the OS is pending any updates.

Well I yes I am using Windows, it does not have pending updates, tho I haven't tried manually reinstalling the drivers. Could you please give me some more information on how to do that?

The problem is yet to be fixed so any help would be apriciated!
