Computer freezes

Ok, I wasnt exactly sure where this might go, but my friends computer freezes at the top of the hour every hour.

I dont think this is a harddrive malfuntion, however, I dont know anywhere else lol...
So any help would be appreciated

Old Systemackard Bell Legend 3550,200 mhz cpu,72mb ram,8mb video,2gb hdd.
NEW System:ECS N2U400-A,512 mb ram,AMD Athlon 2500+, 128 mb video, SOUND, on board lan, USB Ports, 120 Gb HDD

Already scanned for viruses, spyware, etc and got the latest windows updates?
Lack of oddity makes it sound like a software problem such as a virus or spyware.

Thats what I was thinking. I dont know what kind of protection she has. I had her install A-Squared... lol it found 6 virus, and it ended up deleting Exlorer.exe... Shes running windows 98.. lol I was thinking you could find it under C:/windows/dllcache/expolorer.exe..

She cant start in safe mode says "Explorer.exe not found. Reinstall".. lol

any idea? I was thinking copy C:/windows/dllcache/expolorer.exe to C:/windows using the comaand prompt, but I cant remember the command.

Sounds like that install is completely jacked. You will probably be better off trying to get anything you can off of it and reinstalling the os.
I only had 98 for maybe a couple weeks or a month before I went to xp pro so my dos commands knowledge is a tad lacking, lol.

lol well Explorer.exe doesnt require a format.. lol. but thanks for trying all it needs is a fresh install
