Hi everyone, I have had my computer for roughly a year with no issues until today. I bought a new ssd after getting rid of an old Hard Drive, and it worked OK but kept freezing and shooting up to 100% disk usage so I returned it and got a new Hard Drive. Everything was working good and then the same issue started happened again. So I ran memtest+ and prime 95 (for the cpu) and it worked fine with no errors. So here I am left with the motherboard or the gfx card or the psu. Now the Graphics card hopefully and probably isnt the case as it will lock up under no load or idle at times. Which also makes me think it cannot be the psu since it happens when idle. The parts I have are the GA 970a d3p, fx8320, and ripjaws 8gb ram and a 500w psu with 42 amps on the 12v and no issues for the past year. I am running windows 8 and it seems to keep freezing as I try to download and install windows 8.1. Another thing you should note is the part that says gigabyte on the heatsink is very very hot to the touch and when I reboot after a freeze it shows me a blue screen with Gigabyte dual bios then reboots. I am going to try moving around my cable management as that may be the case.

Hi there limitlesscodes,

It is always a good idea to back up the most important data that is stored on the drive until you resolve the issue.
Apart from that, I would advise you to test the HDD with a brand specific testing tool. If the results show that the HDD is healthy and you still get 100% disk usage, you can go to Windows Services and disable 1. Superfetch 2. Windows Search 3. BITS.

Hope this will help,
