Computer freezing randomly

Hello there,
I built my own computer about 1.5 years ago and now on a random day my computer starts randomly freezing 2-3 minutes after bootup, and 1 second before it freezes I hear a downwinding noise coming from my hard drive (I have an ssd and a 500GB hard drive), at this point I have to hard reset it.
When I unplug the sata connector from the hard drive my computer works fine.
I think it's either the Hard drive itself, the motherboard, or possible the PSU.
I've tried a couple of things I found online but none of them seem to work
It's also interesting that in the first day after building the computer it froze 2 times but it stopped doing that for the next 1.5 years.

Thanks in advance.

Once you get your SMART data do a Google search to figure out how to read it. It should give you an indication if either drive is corrupted and/or failing.
Windows, Mac, or Linux? Depending on your OS use a disk utility to read your HDD SMART data. This should tell you if your HDD is failing. Check your SSD too. It's possible something in the OS is corrupted.

Backup your data right now in case your HDD is on the verge of failure.
