Computer freezing - Speedfan has many fire pics

I have a HP built computer with Intel Quad Core Q6600 with a few upgrades. ATI Radeon 4650, (2) 320gb hard drives, (1)500gb hard drive, windows 7 and everything else is stock.

I just started having freezing issues...only when I right click on spybot, drive c or d to look at properties. it might just be a coincidence but I thought I had a virus so I can Norton and then Spybot to check for problems. No problems.

Then, I ran mem test and it stated my memory has no problems.

Finally, after some internet searching I noticed people were having problems with overheating similar to mine. One person recommended Speedfan to evaluate. When I ran speedfan I have the core 0 at a good level (green color code). However, the other items like core 1, 2, 3 have a red flame and the temps have a red flame too. (don't know the exact figures).

But, could the video card cause the computer to overheat?
Would adding a slot fan help?
Would adding more fans help?

Please help....never had a cooling issue before...or could this be something corrupted in windows?

Impossible to know without the actual temperature figures. What levels are "green" or "red" in speedfan can be customized and I think red is at default 50C which might not be too hot and is definitely not too hot for a graphics card. For all we know, the green could be at 47C and the other cores would be at 50C, which is not unusual for Intel processors.

Download and run HWmonitor and post the temperatures here. especially hard drive, the "cores" and the GPU.

Also, without knowing your current case and fan setup, I can't say if adding another fan or a slot fan would help.

By freezing issues, do you mean it freezes then recovers or freezes and stays that way and nothing responds (a good check for this is to turn your caps lock on and off and watch the light to see if it changes)?

Saying "everything else is stock" while not providing a model number for the computer doesn't give us a way to find out what that "stock" is.

As a troubleshooting step, have you tried removing the graphics card and seeing if the problem persists to eliminate the possibility of coincidence?

Anyway get back to me on those and I will try to help more.

Flame doesn't mean anything in speedfan, my cpu and other temps will have a flame by them when their around 50C or higher, which is well within safe limits for the hardware. We need the actual temps if we're to confirm over heating or not.

Sorry but I forgot to state

My computer is an HP Pavillion Elite 9040n Intel Quad Core Q6600 (2.4); I have upgraded the memory to 4gb corsair, (2) 320gb Hard drives, (1) 500gb hard drive and upgraded the video card to ATI Radeon 4650.

The freezing of the computer was mouse and keyboard. I couldn't type, move the mouse or even do ctrl/Alt/del.

This happened a few times so I read it could be spyware so I downloaded Spybot and ran my norton antivirus. Both items were ran in safe mode with no viruses or spyware.

However, once it has completed the scan and I reboot, the computer may freeze on a few items. Right clicking on spybot, right clicking on drive c properties. The freezing isn't always consistenet at the same area or the same program. but could it be a hardware issue or more software issue.

I just cleaned the ducts on the case (filled with lint); and was going to add another fan in the case (from a old computer).

But, I thought I would ask the experts before I create more problems.

download and run memtest on your corsair ram/all your ram and make sure no errors for atleast 3 passes

Don't forget to give us the temperatures if you can. Am I correct in assuming what you have said already is on idle?
Once we figure out the thermals we can see if reseating your CPU heatsink would be any help or not.
If you give us your current fan setup, we can see if another fan would help or not.
Does the freezing go away if you leave it for long enough? Does the caps lock key light still flash when you hit the button during the freeze?
ubernoobie, he already said he ran memtest.
We can't really help until we get those temperatures.

It looks like the cpu is overheating...never had this issue before and haven't overclocked the cpu.
