Computer freezing under heavy load

My computer has been giving me nothing but grief.

I recently rewired my computer to clean up the rat's nest of cables inside, and from that point on, I started having freezing issues. The computer would just very suddenly freeze, especially during gaming, and moments later, my Xbox One controller attached to my computer would start blinking, letting me know it had disconnected.

This happened almost immediately upon load until I reset my CPU overclock back to stock. It then started happening very intermittently, around once every 2 days or so.

Any thoughts as to what is going on? Could dust have gotten into a plug somewhere?

Geforce GTX970
AMD-FX8350
16 GB G.Skill RAM @ 1866 Mhz (memory diagnostics returns no problems here)

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, that could be a large number of stuff. Check and blow into every plug in the PC. Check the temps.

I have used this PSU for about a year now with no problems, and no parts of my computer have changed. I have a 750 Watt EVGA PSU. So no, I don't think that's the issue.

Looks like it only happens with Rocket League interestingly enough.

EDIT: Never mind, it just happened with the Beta of Tom Clancy's "The Division". I blew into the main 24 pin plug. I'm loathe to get into the 8 pin CPU plug, as that one is buried under several case fans, making it very difficult to access.

There is also absolutely NOTHING in the event log on what caused the crash.

I've also noted that in Rocket League, CPU and GPU loads don't get very high, but it still crashes. I also stress tested my system for several hours with no crashes whatsoever. Ran both GPU and CPU simultaneously.

Yes, it's the Supernova B2. I just bit the bullet and dug into the 8 pin CPU connector and blew it out. If it runs fine for a week, I'll mark Swizzle as the solution. Any other thoughts for things I should try in the case that this doesn't work?

The problem has not reappeared in a week after blowing out the connectors and resetting the GPU overclock. I'll mess with the OC to see if I can still do that, but at any rate, I consider this problem resolved.

Hi people!

I'm currently experiencing the exact same issue and it's heartbreaking.
Haven't had any trouble at all with my setup until I started playing XCOM 2. I started out streaming it with OBS (definitely thinking my system should be able to pull it off) and the system completely froze on me after half an hour (frozen picture and frozen sound in the headphones like: drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr). Tried playing it without stream and it froze though after 3-4 hours.
Didn't think much of it and tried streaming some CS with OBS and even then it froze after an hour.

No problem with playing Arma 3, Cs and League without stream.

My rig is one year old; Gtx980 and Haswell i7 and 16gb of ram.

Checked my CPU-temps and they don't seem that crazy, keep in mind I'm layman when it comes to computers.

By blowing out connectors I assume you mean cleaning them with canned air or something along those lines? Is there any tests I can run to corner the issue or where should I start my investigation?

Best regards,
Oliver

Hey Oliver, I suggest making a new thread, but in the meantime...do you have an Overclock on any of the parts? I didn't personally blow out with canned air, just used my breath and a small duster. Make sure all of your cables are plugged in all the way. Look through the event viewer to see if there's anything suspicious. Does CTRL-ALT-DELETE work during a freeze?
