new E machine ET 1810 computer with vista, freezing multiple times. memory diagnostic tool checked OK what can be freezing/locking up even when no programs are running.? happens when modem is disconnected as well.

Sounds like a heat issue, or the power supply is going bad. I would change power supplies. You can get a 585w hec from newegg for $29.99 shipped. Better brands are available such as corsair, antec, pc power and cooling, seasonic, enermax or ocz.

If it's new and under warranty, you should get them to fix it for you.

Jonnyguru has a review of the absolutely fecal PSU that eMachines used/uses, a 250W Bestec. It's got a turn-on spike that will, over time, kill the mobo. I'd get it fixed under warrantee, then replace the PSU with one designed to power a computer.
