Evening gentlemen!
Last december I upgraded most of my computer, including new motherboard and so on(specs below). Now recently while playing, totally randomly, my computer locks itself and the sound gets stuck to the background. Keyboard doesn't work and neither does reset button. Only way to shut down is to hold the power button which causes the " windows didn't shutdown normally etc." appear on startup. Computer has started normally every time so far after these crashes. First time it happened while playing Medieval 2 total war and then I got a legit bluescreen, though I don't remember what it said, I guess the DMP-file still exists from the bluescreen. After this one bluescreen, the lock-ups started to appear. First I thought it only happened in old games which don't like my new rig, older total war games are, for example, prone to bottlenecking and causing crashes. But now it has happened with newer games like Smite, Dota 2 and Hearthstone. sometimes it goes many days without the crash, sometimes it happens atleast once per day.
I also asked a solution to this frustrating problem from Reddit /r/Techsupport and tried things what they suggested with no avail. I had one guy analyze my DMP-file and he said it was RAM related problem.
Latest crash happened yesterday while playing Shogun 2( which has ALWAYS worked, even on my old rig) with new symptom. This time the sound and image didn't get stuck, it just stuttered for 1 second and screen went black and computer restarted itself.
What I have tried so far:
1. Checked temperatures during gaming, they seem to be normal, first I thought it was because overheating or because the computer had been on whole day, but recently while playing Smite and keeping the computer on for couple hours, same **** happened.
2. Updated all drivers, but I haven't updated BIOS
3. Checked computer for malware
4. Cleaned the case and fans from dust
5. Switched my Ram sticks to different slots
6. Cleaned my Ram sticks and the slots
7. Done Windows memtest with both Ramsticks intact and with one of each inserted. No errors whatsoever.
8. Changed my VGA cable to a HDMI one.
9. Reverted to older NVIDIA drivers, did not help( my friend said latest NVIDIA drivers caused him to have bluescreens and got rid of them by reverting to older ones).
What I suspect:
1.The only single part from my rig what I suspect is causing problems is my power supply. I have heard that if the computer doesn't get enough power it might cause bluescreen and the computer is able to run for quite awhile, before the problems with the power supply start to kick in, but I'm not computer savvy enough to know if this is true. My power supply is pretty new, it has warranty still remaining.
2.Maybe I should update my bios?
3.I need to buy new ram, I googled and found out people have had problems with Corsair ram combined with MSI Z170A Mobo.
4. My brand new motherboard is somehow faulty and I need to replace it.
My specs are the following:
OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
Mobo: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming (MS-7984)
Graphics card: NVidia Geforce GTX 670
Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K @ 3.50 GHz which has fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Memory: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB)
Power Supply: Cooler Master GX 550 W
Case: Fractal Design Define R5
Everything in my rig is new except graphics card, its about 3 years old. I appreciate all help what you can provide! This is ******* frustrating. =D
