Computer Hard Crashing during games

For a couple of months now every few weeks I noticed my computer would hard crash while playing games (completely frozen screen, no audio, have to physically reset the computer). I wasn't really able to do much about it since I was busy with exams. Recently I updated my computer to Windows 10, and now these crashes are happening extremely frequently, maybe 20 minutes after starting up a game?

I swapped out my memory DIMMs and still the problem persisted. I swapped out my PSU and still the problem persisted. I honestly have no idea what the problem is but I'm obviously leaning towards faulty GPU considering the fact that the crashes happen only during gaming.

A couple of other things I've noticed since updating to windows 10.

Corsair Link software now no longer allows me to control the pump/fan speed on my liquid cooler, only observe temperatures

Initially after the update, there was a problem with the bios, it said there was in issue with overclocking and the CPU fan couldn't be detected. Went away after the next boot, but just thought I should mention incase it was relevant.

Temps all seem to be OK and I don't see any signs of overheating. I've had problems with overheating in the past and usually the computer just shuts itself down in that case. Temps don't exceed 63 celcius for CPU and 70 celcius for GPU

I'm just wondering what my next course of action is? I'm thinking at this stage to be honest I should just leave it in somewhere.

Thanks guys

Hm. Well I would say it is the GPU, but it's hard to tell. If you have the $$ to buy a new one, or RMA...

Have you updated the drivers for your GPU? What MoBo are you using and have you made sure the drivers are updated on that as well?

Yes, I should've clarified all my drivers for mobo/bios/gpu etc. are all up to date

Ok, and do you have another GPU you can swap the 970 for? That would be a sure way to test if it's the GPU. It's hard to diagnose if it's happening intermittently. Consistent problems are easier to fix. How long have you had the system for before you started having issues/updated to windows 10?

No other GPUs unfortunately.
Updated to Windows 10 about a week ago, thats when it started happening frequently. It started happening however about 3 months ago for no apparent reason but then it was happening maybe once every fortnight.

Hm. Well I would say it is the GPU, but it's hard to tell. If you have the $$ to buy a new one, or RMA your 970 that's what I would try. You could also try wiping your hard drives and doing a fresh install of Windows. That can sometimes work
