Hello, first post so hope this is at the right place.

I put together a new computer 1 month ago (or maybe 2) and so far it's been causing me nothing but problems, it's hard freezing a lot by complete random whether it's watching youtube, movie, playing a game or just having music on, I am pretty sure it's down to being the motherboard or the RAM, by hard freezing i mean it can only be turned off by holding power button and what shows heat on the motherboard goes 00.

So everything is new except the GPU and hard drives

CPU spec:

case: Fractal r5 + corsair 140 mm silent fan (since forgot it only came with 1 fan on front)
motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k 3,50 ghz (not done any overclocking) with CoolerMaster Hyper 412S cpu fan
RAM: Crucial BallisticX sport 2x 8 gb 1600 mhz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2 GB
Power Supply: Corsair RM 650
4x hard drives and 1 SSD, now the SSD is new (Samsung 850 PRO 256 gb) I had a 60 gb ssd but it completely died out of nowhere (unless it's related to this, then worried for new ssd)

Cable management is pretty okay but except for psu to gpu power cord, nothing is blocking front fan from cpu fan

I've moved the hard drive cage down and removed that was below to improve airflow

Heat is usually ~40-50°c while under load, it's at 30-32°c now(cpu) with chrome open (though side panel is off since ready to switch if freezes and try the other ram)

I've ran the microsoft memory diagnostic while asleep and it found no problems. I am when writing this removed 1 memory stick and so far ran fine (otherwise probably never finished compared to how often it's frozen today). Mainly think it's RAM because of bluescreen but find it weird that it happened just moving the slots.

BIOS is fully up to date, should be all the newest drivers installed from motherboard and gpu.

Please help me, this is driving me insane. Unless this works now with ram out even though tried it before)

Let me know if got any questions if you are unsure with something I haven't explained well enough.

Had a hunch someone would say that 😛 finally decide not to have a disc drive in computer then finally need to use it, i'll try tomorrow as it's very late here, guess it takes a while, would have it while i sleep since guess it would take hours but no idea where the empty discs are and thank you, I will update soon as I run that.

Knew I should've waited and ran this while sleeping, took almost 7 hours with 1 stick and had no problems, will try the other one when i go to sleep, although I am surprised that it ran almost 7 hours (6 hours and 45 min) without freezing since it froze like 10 times just last night, so pretty sure it's the other memory stick then, will keep you posted with that result

No errors on the second one also, is it something in windows then if it ran 6:47 hours without freezing? :I
Or that is no errors on both at least, I was pretty sure it was either RAM.
I remember seeing a hotfix for windows 7 that looked like was for something like this but tried to install it and not compatable or something :S

Hmmm try the following:

Try booting with only your SSD connected (where you have your OS installed) and see if the problem goes away, perhaps one of your old HDDs is causing DPC issues.

If problem persists, try booting with no SSD nor HDDs from a Live OS like Ubuntu, see how it behaves.

So I tried plugging off all the HDD's so just ssd left and it ran without a problem until i tried playing a game and ran it for about 20-30 min before it froze. I haven't tried the Live OS booting because this problem was before I got the new SSD, unless it's windows, strange though if installed it twice now within 1-2 months, although I installed it for first time of a USB key, doubt that causes any freezing though. I find it strange this happens rather in games, the GPU had no problems before I put it in the new computer and just no problems with any other stuff, I've even cleaned (both blowing out of it and taking it apart and cleaning there) it once since put it in this computer it was that.

Continue with just the SSD, if the random crashes at idle dissappear then that was caused by one of your HDDs, that would be one problem, and apparently a second one when taxing your system with games.

This second problem could be an overheating issue so monitor CPU and GPU temps while gaming, could also be a PSU problem, perhaps with the others HDDs it gets to its limit thus causing the issue with them both at idle and on load?

After ruling out an overheating issue run stress tests like Prime95 and Furmark and monitor temps + voltages, there could be the problem, use HWMonitor Pro with its log feature for it.

So I tried again with SSD (i plugged hdd's first in since crashed again and had them in since) tried 2 days ago again with only SSD plugged in, now it crashed randomly, I even tried tonight unplugging the gpu and used the Intel internal graphics thing, worked fine (for some reason it froze almost instantly when played a game, had it at 720p instead of 1080p) otherwise ran fine, but is now freezing at random too and that was running only with the new parts. Could it be just bad motherboard (mainly since if it's freezing with moving the memory stick), tried checking if psu was not plugged completely somehwere, seemed fine.. planning to just take it to repair (first time in like 13 years).

Hello, computer is still freezing, it had been fine but still freezing 1-2x a day (as opposed to) 20 times.
I've tried switching the PSU with my Tagan 700W PSU (from my older rig) and using ram from my friend and him trying mine and, on his computer is working no problem (with my memory), i tried first when was at his home with my computer could play a game for 3 hours no problem but froze when got home and then started more and more, gotten a new GPU. Tried updating again just 1 by 1 the BIOS drivers and was fine but then tried enabling xmp (think its called) and set it to 1600 mhz (was at 1333 mhz) but started freezing more again, changed it back and set bios to default but still the same (may have to flash bios again), this is mainly freezing in games.

I have brought computer to computer repair shop for first time in 10-12 years and first they said it was gpu and then the day i went to pick it up that it could be the OS (they installed windows from their disc but no format), I thought it was fixed then started freezing and then with each day felt it happened more and more (was none or 1 the first day), I have even tried formatting it about 2-3 times since then since they said it was the OS but hasn't changed any.

Anyone know what it could be please? This is getting quite frustrating (since brand new parts and had this problem since day 1 and its been 2 months+ now).

I'm thinking if the motherboard is flawed maybe or (repair place i went to though was where i bought the motherboard).

Please ask any questions if I've not cleared things enough with bad typing or just not provided enough information.
So far.. tried switching RAM, PSU, GPU (now got Geforce GTX 980), (SSD since one i had suddenly died) and i think everything except motherboard and cpu. I've got all drivers including bios up to date and installed a windows hotfix. Running Windows 7, Service Pack 1.

Well it's in main thread for cpu but don't think i did for gpu, this is only for 20-30 mins but on idle it's been..

GPU:
min 35°c -- max 40.0°c -- value 37°c

cpu:
min 30°c -- max 42°c -- value ~ 33.5°c

I work at night so tried having the computer on the whole time ( 8-8:30 hours overall ca.) and it didn't freeze, was greeted with spam of open folders (i guess for all temps save?), was gonna post the heat but didnt know it would be in lots of folders and have .bmp pics and then it froze when i turned the logging off.

CPU load temps look fine, GPU I'm not sure if CS:GO is that heavy as to get your GPU into the 80sºC, but it seems it didn't reach a critical level right before the crash so it shouldn't be the issue.

So at idle it had no issues for 8+ hours, when turning off the log did only HWInfo froze or also the pc? I've seen HWInfo sometimes freezing for a few seconds when turning its log off so that seems to be quite normal.

If it was only HWInfo freezing then the problem seems to happen now only during load, leading again to possibly the PSU, if you could zip all HWinfo charts and upload it so we can see what exactly happens before the freezing would be great.

However if the entire pc froze when closing HWInfo then as you said before it seems to be the mobo...

Yes I've ran memtest86 on each ram stick and it didn't find any problems and currently been using my friends memory sticks and he hasn't had any problems with mine (first thought it was that)

So I tried bringing it again to computer repair place (and same place that i bought the motherboard and cpu) hoping to check out if it was the motherboard and then maybe replace it (this is second time I've went there, I went there before and first thought it was GPU then dismissed that and then thought it was the OS and said it was fixed (obviously not)), it ran fine for 1-2 days and then started freezing and more more (again this is from previous visit).

This time, the computer never froze for them and they said they didn't unplug any hard drive or anything, just ran it as it arrived and ran stress tests, right before i went there i decided to try flash the bios or by removing the round battery, wasn't sure how to feel about this since it was freezing before i got there but no problem for them. I got home, adjusted the clock since guess they didn't since it was still set late at night for 2013) AND... computer started freezing rampantly and still is, just for the hell of it I tried resetting the bios again and made no difference).

For the hell of it since the second time i went to that place it didn't freeze and dont think it froze when i visited my friend (that i switched RAM's with to see if it was that) and played for ~3 hours insurgency with no freezing but always freezing at home, I've tried different power cords and plugging in different power outlets in the room, it's been cold here often this winter with the window open so doubt it's the temperature, hell i've even tried switching mice with another mouse in the home since noticed someone saying that it made his USB freeze and computer freeze.

So I have this pretty awesome NEW computer that should handle almost anything at max (since also upgraded gpu to gtx 980) BUT playing games very little because it's no fun when you are constantly freezing so gotta start over and well morale is getting quite low since this has been since what first or second week of january and it's driving me insane, mainly because don't know WHAT is causing it, otherwise would be a whole different thing

edit: forgot to mention when went to the computer repair place, they said both times that it could be an old hard drive maybe causing it (i've got 4 normal hard drives + SSD), i've tried 2 times actually before to just have SSD plugged and put ~2 times on it and it still froze, but at least lasted quite longer first time i did it, second time not so much difference

Well that's why I started trying to try different power outlets in the room and coords although strange that wasn't weird on my old computer, we moved in winter late last year and well had my computer computer here until february this year. want to try this again to visit a friend and try it there but I'm sick at the moment, I was gonna ask my dad to check the power but forgot about it and well I don't know much about it.

So I think i mentioned computer was also now starting to blue screen, this is from the latest one.

From what I've seen ntoskrnl.exe is hardware or driver related? I had another 10 min previously and it looks like it's the same (or at least also has the same bug check code and caused by ntoskrnl.exe, I tried in between to remove and install geforce drivers again but guess that didn't fix it (was reading if someone had trouble when windows installed geforce drivers through windows update, gonna try again but see how to remove it completely if it was because of something still left on computer

Previous one was from "BlueScreenView" here is from Windbg it's saying also that it's unable to load image ntoskrnl.exe

ntoskrnl.exe is directly related to HAL, the module that controls the hardware/software link, since there's a "DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: WIN7_DRIVER_FAULT" hopefully its a software issue, finding out which one though its the hard part, start with video drivers as you mentioned before.

You might wanna try "Whocrashed", another BSOD reader, with driver related issues I've found it very useful since most of the times it can tell you which driver was the culprit.

Sorry I forgot to put in results from the 'WhoCrashed'

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. No offending third party drivers have been found. Connsider using WhoCrashed Professional which offers more detailed analysis using symbol resolution. Also configuring your system to produce a full memory dump may help you.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

Bugcheck code 0x124 is associated to a hardware error, most of the times the CPU, but we've ruled out overheating and voltage issues on it...

The fact that your system runs ok in other place is what makes this too weird, if possible test it in one more place to be 100% of it, otherwise since you had the CPU tested the problem seems to be your mobo.

Well I'm gonna run some logs on HW monitor pro again, noticed I never actually ran the Prime 95, what would you recommend of the tests there, just blend (default) or more on power consumption since you mentioned that.
I remember you asked once to post the results from previous HW monitor pro but only reason i hadn't was because each folder takes 235 MB and well it makes new one every 6 minutes, is it better to just have all the ones from CPU and GPU in one zip file (maybe motherboard aswell)?
