Computer case has no back panel covering over the ports and it reveals a bit of the motherboard. How bad is this? Asking because i am worried it is affecting the temps and maybe causing damage.

Solution
THE I/O shield is to prevent EMI (electromagnetic interference) and it should be installed. It usually comes with the motherboard and not the case.
<- IT Manager You dont need one, i have a computer that has ran for 6 years with out one. My work computer is on a Thermaltake core P5 case and it doesnt use a I/O shield
