Computer hdmi to dvi monitor connection?

Have you tried to connect a hdmi computer port to a dvi display port via adapter,
and did it work/get a picture?

i've done the reverse...

my gfx card outputs via dvi. the card actually came with a single-piece dvi->hdmi cable and it works perfect. i'd gander the opposite would work as well.

The computer dvi monitor hdmi via adapter I have heard runs.
But the other way round, I have yet not heard if it works.
