[SOLVED] Computer immediately waking from sleep and dying

So I first became aware of this yesterday. Put the computer to sleep as normal, came back in the morning and logged in to see it was logging in from a complete shutdown. Reliability monitor said Windows crashed in the night with the faulting driver (according to Blue Screen View) being dxgmms2.sys

Came today to put it to sleep and it went to sleep but then immediately started again with 100% fans on I think every component and died, Tried to start and I got fans, lights and it cut. Then I could boot. Nothing is recorded as having faulted though.

This just started yesterday.

i5 4570
RTX 2070 Super (newest component in there as well as a Samsung 860 Evo)
MSI Z97 Gaming 7
Antec Truepower 750 W PSU
16 GB RAM

Power plan: Ultimate Performance which I turned on recently

Can you go to c:/windows/minidump
copy minidumps to a new folder
upload copies from new folder to a file sharing website and show link here. ALthough I can guess its gpu as its newest part and most Direct X errors are GPU related.

How old is PSU?

try a different power plan and see if it helps?

I used DDU to put the 451.67 drivers for this card on. I'm not sure if I used it again for 451.85 hot fix drivers

The PSU is 5 years old AFAIK

My GPU is being fed of one PSU cable which has an 8 pin and a 6+2. That's how the previous card (GTX 780) was set up too, just without the +2 pins. Thought this would be all good for the GPU, but maybe it's not. Good idea to run another cable with an 8 pin connection to the GPU instead of the 6+2?

I don't think it should make a difference, they both add up to right amount of pins.

Sleep crashes are often driver related. Lets see what dumps show.

When I last checked last week, the most recent BIOS is from 2016 or something which is already installed. The Live Update program that was part of the software that came with the board doesn't say there any new BIOS updates for me. Whenever there's been one it's told me although I don't know if the last time it updated broke something or not because if I start from off and want to go straight to BIOS using the delete key/F12 or whatever it is it will load BIOS and crash. Turning off MSI Fast Boot fixes that though. Something I've known about for ages. I don't know if this is useful but when the sudden sleep mode shutdown happens there is one USB device that doesn't regain power on reboot and that's my Xbox One controller adaptor. Every other device regains power except that one.

try unplugging that Xbox controller and see if you still get the behaviour (as I know dying USB devices can mess with graphics drivers)

Now it could be the USB device or it could just be Nvidia drivers.
You have fairly new Drivers but that doesn't mean you are safe... there haven't been good Nvidia drivers for almost a year now.

The dump file was only generated the first time this happened but the sleep crash the day afterwards (the day I made this thread) didn’t create any log at all (other than the standard Event 41 in Event Viewer) but a program called MSI_LED crashed at the same time Windows did.

I could try unplugging the adaptor, I’ve got a game downloading at the moment though
