i tried overclocking today on phenom ii X2 560 black edition after having it unlocked for months and my motherboard is biostar ta880gu3+. i was able to boost the cpu speed to 3547.5 without touching anything else in the bios. i ran prime for a few hours and everything seemed fine. i then decided to see if i could lower the volts from 1.428 (1.450 is bios setting but cpu-z said the first was max) i tried to bring it down to 1.400 flat, i saved settings and then the computer shut off and now it wont post. i tried reseting the cmos, reseating the battery and even leaving it unplugged from the wall for a hour but that got me no where. i also tried taking ram sticks out and trying them out in every single slot 1 stick in 1 slot at a time but no go on that either. and the computer also refuses to make beeps to let me know whats happening. im assuming the worse already cpu or mb or both are gone but im posting this here incase there is something i missed? its really frustrating that this is happening especially since i just spent all my money on a new card. could someone possibly help me figure whats going on?

hard to believe you can kill a cpu by undervolting.

leave the computer unplugged, and the bios battery pulled out of the system, plus whatever clrcmos jumper/button you have set/pressed.

leave it like that for a few minutes... and try again.

generally speaking undervolting is safe for cpus... so worst case scenario is you broke your bios/mb or psu...

Make sure if you clear CMOs that your computer is NOT plugged in. It can potentially damage things. Pulling out the bios battery as ingtar said or pressing a small Clear CMOS button at the back of the motherboard if you have one should fix things up.

i did wait a bit when i pulled the battery out but now i have it unplugged, battery out and the cmos on reset. i still feel like i made a mistake in the bios when trying to undervolt. i recall when i was setting vcore volt it was originally on auto but i took it off auto and put it to 1.400. but now that i think about it, it said +1.400 though it wouldnt make any sense for a setting to up volts an additional 1.0 + its my first time messing with the overclock :/ but i read up on it for hours before even attempting it

you see.. undervolting is what quiet and cool does all the time. so i have a lot of trouble believing you broke something with what amounts to a mild undervolt.

i have a problem with ac not getting to the bedrooms in my house so my room ranges from 80f-84f with 60-80 humidity. i leave the door open, aired out my house and even tried putting a few fans in there and even one at the door blowing air in and tried blowing out but no matter what i try it just doesnt want to drop below 80. and my mb can only get 3 fans on it and with those 3 running it sounds like someone slamming on the gas pedal of a space shuttle and it not going anywhere. i guess its a combination of wanting the fans to slow down, prolong the life of my hardware and cool down my pc. i even have a 212 in there

the system not running fulload everytime i think , 80f-84f is cool for me ... in fact, if the PC fulload not exceed the maximum limit overheating then it should not be done,, in my region 33C and in my home no AC and in the room very warm .. no problem for it .. . Hot ambient and hot weather during the day is very good for looking max OC setting .. and the resilience and strength of the CPU cooler to cool the CPU, if so you need a bigger CPU Cooler just @sugesstion

idk where you live but 95+ feels cooler outside than 84f+70+ humidity in a little room lol, but on topic, what would be the next step up from cm 212? ive been weighing the option of putting the computer under the main vent in my house and running like 50ft of hdmi and usb cables to feed into my room lol. so, what do you guys think went poof? i think the hard drive powers on, i know the cd drive turns on, unsure of the ram but i think the cpu isnt turning on and i definitely know the cpu fan plug is not turning on. should i try bringing it to a pc shop?

unplugged hard drive, cd drive, removed all ram and video card but no beep. but i did notice something, the motherboard has a red led on by the 4 pin connector which i thought was usually green. i didnt catch it at first because my heatsink was covering it and the rear fan has red leds. im starting to wonder if the issue is with the motherboard its self, like it wont reset cmos but the board is still good. would i be able to flash bios to reset it if the cpu/cpu fan isnt coming on?

i didnt buy the board at the store or online i bought it in a cheap desktop off of craiglist near a year ago, would that still qualify to rma it? man honestly i rather just get a new board but i dont know whats reliable and cheap out there. i would like to stick to amd since its cheaper than intel and later just make a transition to intel when it slides down to my budget. you have any suggestions on a mb/amd cpu around 150 (combined).

unlock?

as in core unlocking, or overclocking? the R2.0 does not have a core-unlocker, the first version of that mb does (Asus M5A97 LE) ... if you need a core unlocking feature, then i suggest you hunt down the first version of that motherboard.

that said, that motherboard certainly will overclock a cpu.

Most modern amd cpus do not have cores you can unlock. for example, you can't buy a 6 core fx6300 and unlock 2 cores to turn it into an 8 core fx8350... it's only got 6 cores. there is nothing to unlock.

oh i was just wondering, if my cpu is still good id atleast want to keep it unlocked to a 4 core, i was planning to try to play bf3 and some other games. also a little update, i put a different new psu into the computer and tried to reset the jumpers and no luck but then i took the battery out for awhile and then put it back in just now and the computer 2 green lights blinked for a split second but didnt turn on and no post so then i turned it off and tried again and the the cpu fan is spinning (very slowly) but no post and no second 2 lights, what do you guys think of that? i havent turned of the pc yet
