Hey everyone,
So my computer is functioning correctly with all lights and fans working. Also mobo sounds one short beep which tells me everything is working fine, except my monitor does not display anything. This problem occured 2 days ago and i have had my pc for quite some time now (6 years). Half a year ago i changed my power supply, so therefore no problem should be from that. I also had a CMOS battery change and it seems to not be the problem. Tried switching rams around (not replacing) and monitor is still acting up.

A weird exception to this problem is when i seem to force restart it, my monitor display is in its normal state (therefore everything is working fine). Any reasons for this occurrence? As turning it on straight after waking up does not display anything on the monitor unless I force it to restart.

Sorry if i may sound like a noob but i'm literally at a point where i can't think of the problem. I may assume it's the graphics card?

Thanks a ton

I've had this happen to me on both my computers in the last few days. Both perfectly working computers but then I opened Radeon settings on my second computer and got a black screen that wouldn't go away. I had to hold the power button to turn it off. Rebooted and it did it again. Eventually it booted up. I put it down to an overworked (mining) HD7950.

Then I hooked up my desktop, used it for a few hours and black screen when I tried to play a song from youtube. Identical problem, I couldn't turn it off unless I held the power button.

The only common factor is that they both have an AMD graphics card.

Then I read on the news that the Intel update that addresses the low level security flaw causes random crashes and Microsoft have debunked it. I later found an article about the spectre patch causing issues with AMD chips too but that was two weeks old. I'm hoping this it!

Much appreciated for the reply devavictrix! :)

I don't think that seems to be my problem as my issue is the starting up process where the monitor does not display anything (blank screen). And the only way to turn it on is trying to force restart (button on tower) to make the monitor display my desktop (sometimes it works, sometime is doesn't work). As of now my monitor is displaying flawlessly with no problems at all due to the force restart.

Update: Been searching other forums and seems like no one is facing the same problem as me, probably due to forcing the restart on the computer. It just doesn't make sense. :/
