so about a week ago my computer DIED. i got a freind to give me a windows ten bootable flash drive and BAZAM, it worked, PRAISE GOD I CAN PLAY MY STEAM GAMES AGAIN. then catastrophy struck across the drive (or system, os, idk anymore) suddenly what had mben running 80 fps at highest settings started running at 3!
so the morale of the story is i have some questions
1. ive been thinking about getting a new hdd anyway can i use a usb flash drive3 to install windows on a computer with no OS?
2. i would like to not have to bye a new hdd and came here once before. the guy recommended avast antivirus to scan for malware and viruses, it came up positive for hardware problems not virus or malware, so the point is what else could i use their customer service is bad and the prices too steep. they told me it was a windows OS problem (but i dont believe them 😉 this was just installed monday)
3.i searched some stuff and people said it could be a hard drive problem? said it was a sign of the drive dying soon? i ran defragmentation and optimization and it DID help just a little, what was 3 fps went up to like nine in game

so i would like a professional on hdds and OS to help im but a clueless 14 yr old (my birthday is tommorrow btw 😉 you should bye me things) i know quite a bit about hardware and built my own system, feel free to get deep and technichal.

he told me you can download 10 from their website free idk though ill check

windows 7 pro and i bought about 1/2 of this computer used and the hdd/OS combo was part of that

And with that purchase, did it include the OS license and any Win 7 Pro install media? As in written down somewhere?
Doubtful.

Or did you just power up and proceed to play games on it...(as what usually happens)

So, with that install of Win 10, you wiped out whatever OS was on there.
Meaning you can't retrieve the Win 7 license key. (if it even was valid in the first place)

Looks like your going to have to make 2 purchases:
1 x HDD
1 x valid OS license.

it had a windows key sticker on it that (surprizingly) hadnt faded, and by this satement i take it you would recomend i just bye a new hdd?

or i could just use my freinds usb?

For future reference, and for anyone else reading this...

With any used PC that comes with an OS, the very first thing you need to do is a full wipe and reinstall of the OS.

This does a couple of things:
1. Verifies that the OS license is probably not bogus/pirated
2. Cleans off whatever weird or illegal stuff the seller had in there.
3. Starts you off with a pristine system.

His Win 10 USB? Not with a Win 7 license.

i think your missing the point. in fact im using it RIGHT NOW and its perfectly fine? im kinda confused why u want me to buy win 7 media

You have Win 10 installed, from a USB borrowed from your friend.

Did it ask for the license key while you installed it?
Is it activated?

he claims to have activated it but quite franky (and im not trying to mean/rude to you or microsoft) dont care if it is pirated

Well then, we're done here.
Good luck with your new drive.
