Computer isn't recognising mic?

Hi, I bought iLuv Neon Headphone and they come with a mic. But whenever I plug them in they don't work in the computer. When I plug them into the headphones jack it works as headphones but when I put them into the mic jack the mic doesn't work. The mic works on my other devices, so could someone please help me out.

Laptop: Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S.

Have you made sure your audio drivers are enabled and everything is up to date? And have you made sure it's in the right jack?

Yepp. I have downloaded Realtek and it has made no difference. I have recently installed Windows 7 64-bit if that helps
