Computer Keeps freezing, going black, then coming back on, then going black again and not coming on!

I've been having this issue for a while now and all my drivers are up to date. I have a pretty old computer, but all my hardware is good. I check the event log everytime it happens and this is the only thing the shows up

check that the hard drive spindle not locking up the drive and the drive locking up windows. use hardware info set pc to logging and sensore see if anything is missing.

Not really computer savy.....how do I go about doing all of that?
