My problem started with my computer freezing every once and a while. The screen would freeze but I could still hear my sound. It has gotten to the point now that it will freeze within 5 minutes of start up, it has also frozen in BIOS. It either just freezes on the screen, or it will go black, or it will freeze and then auto-restart itself. One time when i turned it back on it went to windows system restore. But when I restarted it again it booted as normal, but still froze.

This is my first time building a computer all by myself, and it is (as you can tell below) a budget PC that I use for gaming. I built it around a month ago and I have had small issues that were easily resolved. This is the first time something of this nature has happened.
My setup:
CPU: AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 XMP
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti 2 GB GDDR5
MOBO: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPG
Pwr supply: Antec VP-450 450 Watt
Case: Fractal Design Define R4

Running Windows 8.1

Currently running CCleaner. Update on problems: Every few times it freezes and I restart it, it will come to the windows repair screen, but doesnt help anything. One time it has come up with the windows symbol and said "Repairing disk errors, this may take over an hour" But has frozen before it could finish.

And I went into my task manager and my "System" process, or sometimes other windows processes are taking up an extreme amount of disk space and causing it to max out. Usually is System but sometimes it is Service Host: Local System, or my antivirus/malware protection process.

The big ones that CCleaner deleted were:

Interenet Explorer - Temporary Internet Files (106,249 KB)
System - Temporary Files (4,196,780 KB)
System - Memory Dumps (516,391 KB)
Utilities - NVIDIA Install Files (428,580 KB)

Ive never used internet explorer except once to download Chrome.

The Registry cleaner will be the important portion of CCleaner to run. If it finds a lot in the first pass, you may want to reboot and run CC again. Once we know that the freezing isn't due to software, we can start checking the drive, memory, etc.

there were a lot of errors in the registry, including:
Missing Shared DLL x26
Open with Application Issue x1
ActiveX/COM Issue x3
Unused registry key x1
Application Paths Issue x11
Installer reference issue x1
Obsolete software key x3
Invalid firewall rule x16
Missing MUI reference x3

Fixed all issues, most fixes meant deleting registry value or key.

I've used CC for many years and no longer worry about saving a copy of the Reg. as the nag screen asks. But do what you feel comfortable with. I've never ever had a problem related to running CCleaner's registry cleaner. But if you are in doubt, make yourself a disk image of your system to another storage medium before making any changes.

At this point I have attempted multiple times and cannot get my computer to fully boot up before it either A - Freezes up, or B - The display shuts off.

Now I dont know if this is a graphics card problem or not. It is a brand new graphics card. One time when starting up it went to windows system repair and said that it was repairing errors with (C: ). Was taking a while and last time i looked it was at a high percentage, (80ish) and then it was a black screen (Not dead black, but just blank) but my monitor was still connected (Green light on monitor) Other times the display will simply not even turn on (No green light, just orange)

Do you have access to another gfx card you can try to see if it will boot up?
The PSU and the gfx card are the two most logical items. But it could also be the board itself. Or the drive.

Can you boot to, say... the Win installation disk w/o freezing/crashing?

I managed to boot it just fine finally but now whenever I play a video it is extremely slow. It loads fine but its slow as in, a 10 second video would take 20 seconds. The sound is lagged and slow. Any notification sound I get, any sound at all takes twice as long and sounds all mechanical. I could get another gfx card to test it but with the sound problem also do you still think it could be a gfx card problem?

If you're not using the gfx card's sound chip, then your sound problem shouldn't be due to the gfx card.

What were some of the "small issues that were easily resolved" that you mention above? Maybe that will help shed some light on which item is causing your issues.

My computer would crash after playing some games about 15ish minutes into them. This turned out just to be a heat problem I believe because once I reapplied the thermal compound and my heatsink, and got better airflow in my case it stopped happening.

Did you use an electrically conductive pastes, like Arctic Silver 5? I was wondering if any got on the motherboard or the socket.

Other than that, I'd probably start replacing components. Card, PSU...

Maybe check for loose wiring. I'd even remove the MB and breadboard the sytem outside the case and test it. Check under the MB to be sure you didn't inadvertantly add a standoff that shouldn't be there. It may be shorting the backside of the board.

Another thought would be to disconnect all the drives and boot to BIOS only. See if the system still has the same freezing issue. In other words, start removing components until the problem is gone or you can't boot anymore.

I tried replacing parts one by one to see if it solved the problem, but after replacing the gpu, hdd, and psu, nothing changed. the display wouldnt even turn on. Once I put everything back to normal how it was before it booted up. I wasnt expecting it to boot at all so I missed the bios but it froze before I could even get to my desktop. Now the display wont even turn on again.

I used Antec Formula 7 for the paste but i made sure not to get even a small amount on the mb. I dont see anything plugged into the motherboard that shouldnt be. I'm not entirely sure though as far as what a standoff is.

It doesnt seem to be a consistent problem. One minute it will not want to turn the display on, the next it will freeze every couple minutes, the next it wont. Last night I was using it for about 2 hours and it booted up just fine, sound was fine, display was fine. No freezing.

I just booted it up and got a screen saying: Overclocking failed! Please enter Setup to re-configure your system. Press F1 to Run SETUP. And has my detected devices on the screen, usb devices, total memory, cpu, etc.

However I dont know if it froze or not, because at this point no matter what USB port I plug my keyboard into it doesnt work. No caps lock light, nothing.

Update: Got it into bios, but keyboard/mouse stopped working again or it froze as soon as I got in.
CPU temp on startup: 54 C.
Voltages:
CPU: 1.236V
3.3v: 3.264V
5v: 4.950V
12v: 11.840V

When it 'freezes' in bios I dont know if its just my mouse and keyboard or not, because I have three lights on my mouse that when its on and being used they are red, but when its just plugged into a power source to charge they are green. When it stops working they turn green as if its not even being used anymore. I dont know if that makes a difference or not, but my keyboard doesnt even light up for caps/num lock etc
